ALDEA TUYA is in the heart of the Jalatlaco neighborhood, one of the best neighborhoods to appreciate the vibrant life of Oaxaca. Our home is perfect for a group of friends or couples, family gatherings or couples looking for extra space. The historic centre is only 10 minutes away on foot and the La Merced market is only 5 minutes away on foot. There are also several cafes and restaurants nearby.

The space
Each room includes handmade bedside tables (by Ivan), a bedside lamp, a portable fan, a desk and chair, and many more local touches.

We also have plenty of closet space with hooks so you can fully unpack and feel at home. We also provide 2 shower towels per room and hand towels in each bathroom. We change towels and sheets each week, depending on the length of their stay. For any personal items, such as face towels, we recommend that you bring them. Each room also has its own bathroom, where we offer shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, and hand soap.

Admire the view of the Auditorio Guelaguetza and relax in the hammock on our terrace where you can watch the sunset behind the mountains with a beer or mezcal. On cooler days or at night, hang out in our rest nest under the discotheque ball and get comfortable with a book.

The fast wifi gets to every corner of the house and we have hotspots all over the house. A new addition to the house is a 55 "LG smart TV, equipped with Netflix if you want to spend a night at home after exploring.

Our kitchen is equipped with a new grill, blender and coffee maker. If they want to cook, Mercado de la Merced is only 10 minutes walking, where they can buy the freshest local produce.

Before your arrival, we will send you an extensive list of recommendations for eating, drinking, shopping and visiting in the city of Oaxaca and around.

Guest access
You will have access to the full house. Each room has its own room key and main entrance. There is a free parking space outside our home.

Other things to note
*THINGS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT BEFORE BOOKING*

- We will not tolerate any unpleasant or disrespectful behavior towards our staff. Marisol and his mother, Sarita, take care of our house and are like family to us and have been with us from the beginning. Therefore, if it makes them feel uncomfortable in our home, we could not offer them the housekeeping service.

- We don't think our house is safe for small children. The stairs on the second floor do not have handrails and the spiral staircase that goes up to the terrace does not have closed sides. If you are travelling with children, please write to us first. We believe that the house is perfect for older families, groups of friends and couples.

- We live in a colorful, lively neighborhood full of street art, famous in Oaxaca. It is especially full during the Guelaguetza (July) and the Day of the Dead (October/November), when the whole city is alive! There are cafes and bars nearby that are open until 11.00 pm.

- If you are sensitive to noise and hustle and bustle of everyday life or don't like being in the center of a vibrant local neighborhood, our home may not be for you.

- We ask that you keep noise on the terrace to a minimum after 11:00 pm to respect our residential neighbours.

- Oaxaca suffers terribly from drought, so we ask you to be considerate with the water and reuse the provided towels.

- Just as our house is old, so are our water pipes. Therefore, we recommend showering one at a time to allow the best water pressure. We have adjusted the hot water temperature of the showers to 50°C.

- Please note that there is no hot water in the hand basins. However, the heat of the sun warms the pipes and provides natural hot water during the day.

- We recommend up to 2 people in our hammock at the same time and without jumping. You can roll towards the net and drag yourself to your perfect position.

- We recommend that you do not book if you have problems with stairs without handrails or problems climbing stairs.

Neighbourhood highlights

Jalatlaco neighborhood is one of the liveliest neighborhoods in Oaxaca and the first 'magical neighborhood' in Mexico - it is adorned with vibrant facades and murals. This area is filled with life during the Day of the Dead and the Guelaguetza (July), where the troupes and calendas dance through the cobbled streets, always accompanied by a live band.
