Our village is an ideally placed for visiting the Pewsey Vale, North Wessex Downs or touring the Great West Way. There's so much to enjoy: Walk under Savernake’s ancient trees in Henry VIII’s hunting forest, wander beside colourful narrow boats on the Kennet & Avon canal or follow the Romans' footsteps in the secluded Brail wood. Wilton windmill & Crofton Beam Engines are working reminders of our industrial heritage.

The space
A private bedroom with a comfy double bed and en-suite shower. Optional twin beds. A continental-style breakfast is included, served in our adjoining dining room or outside on the decking on warm sunny days. The room is ground-floor with parking just in front of the building. The entrance is directly from the parking area through the utility room at the front, or up garden steps at the back. You’ll be given your own key to come and go as you please during your stay and are welcome to sit out in our garden.
The bedroom is equipped with a small desk, 2 chairs and tea and coffee making facilities, as shown in the photos, but we would like guests to be aware that there is no lounge area and it is not self-catering so there are no facilities to prepare meals.
Our accommodation could be suitable for some guests with limited mobility but it is not fully accessible so please contact us in advance to discuss any particular accessibility requirements and we'll help if we can. A shower stool is available on request.
There’s an off-road parking space for your vehicle or secure storage for bikes and, if arriving by train, Bedwyn station, on a direct line from Paddington, London, is just 5 mins walk from the house. Buses are scheduled or bookable through the on demand service. Our house is just a short distance from the Kennet & Avon towpath and on a Sustrans cycle route so is an excellent location for an overnight stop for walkers or cyclists travelling between Bristol, Bath and Reading. The Pewsey Vale Circular Way, a long-distance walking or cycling route passes through the village.

Guest access
At the back the bedroom opens directly onto steps to a decking seating area which guests are welcome to use. If steps aren't your thing, you can reach the decking area via the utility room with only threshhold steps to negotiate. There is another secluded seating area by the apple trees and covered pond at the bottom of the garden.

During your stay
We will greet guests personally on arrival whenever possible and will be at home and available to assist during their stay. Guests will have their own keys to the front and back entrances so can come and go whenever they please. We are happy to recommend places to eat, visit or walk. We have lived in the area most of our adult lives so know it quite well. The village post office, shops and pub are always good places to visit for a chat and to ask for suggestions.

Other things to note
The main train line London to Plymouth runs through the village so you might hear the occasional train at night or early morning. The dawn chorus of birds in spring is enjoyable but can be a bit noisy! The room is double-glazed.

Mobile telephone coverage is patchy in the village but there is Wi Fi in the room.

Neighbourhood highlights

Great Bedwyn lies on the edge of the Pewsey Vale, along The Great West Way and within the North Wessex Downs 'a unique and spectacular landscape that includes tranquil open downland, ancient woodland and chalk streams in the centre of southern England'. Our village has all the advantages of a traditional English village, a pub, cafe, post-office selling fresh bread and rolls, and a convenience store all just a short walk from our house. The chip van visits on Tuesdays and the mobile wood-fired Pizzas on alternate Wednesdays in summer. We're ideally situated for overnight stays for canal walkers and cyclists and if you're staying a little longer there's so much to see and do just a short drive away. if you are visiting from further afield you might like to use us as an economical base for day trips to Bath, Oxford, Winchester, Salisbury or Stonehenge – all just an hours drive away, and London an hour and half by train.
If you are taking advantage of our 3 night stay offer of then here’s just a suggestion of how you might spend a weekend locally:
Arrive Friday for an evening meal at our village pub The Three Tuns. Saturday visit Crofton Beam Engines in the morning, coffee or lunch in their café, then take the circular 5 mile walk through the Brail which conveniently passes The Swan in Wilton for further refreshment. In the afternoon visit the market town of Marlborough known for its wide high street and many independent shops and restaurants. Stay in town for an evening meal out, Rick Steins or Dan’s at The Crown for a treat, or there are also plenty of traditional rural pubs that we can recommend. Sunday morning stroll across to Wendy’s community café for coffee and cake or lunch, vegetarian and vegan choices a speciality, or lunch at The Three Tuns. In the afternoon visit the windmill (on Sunday afternoons in summer months there are trips to the top of the mill) and take a country walk – there is a great choice of local routes. Then a relaxing Sunday evening back at No 10 preparing to leave for home Monday morning after a continental breakfast with us. And on your way home perhaps a visit to Hungerford, renowned for its interesting antique and collectors shops and arcade. That’s a pretty full weekend in the countryside – all within 7 miles of our B&B! See our guidebook for even more suggestions.

I’m happy to spend time with my guests or give them space
Great Bedwyn has been our home for 40 years and we enjoy many aspects of village life. When not spending time with family and friends, you’ll find me poking around in our large garden, cultivating vegetables and encouraging the wildlife. I run the local Footpaths Group which is actively involved in identifying, promoting and clearing local walking routes so I have plenty of local walk recommendations to share with guests. I also walk with the Wiltshire Ramblers Association, am a member of the local History Society, sing with the Hungerford Rock Choir and learn Ceroc dancing too when time permits! Husband Dave runs the local bell-ringing team and performs regularly with local drama groups. We started hosting in 2014 and still love meeting our guests from this country and abroad. We get great pleasure from sharing our lovely hidden area of Wiltshire with visitors and in hearing about their travels too.
