Our handcrafted luxury shepherd’s hut sits in the peaceful grounds of our 17th century farm. Wake to birdsong, sip coffee by the pond, explore the walled garden or ancient woodland and stargaze under some of the darkest skies in North Wales. Wildflowers surround a private outdoor seating area and with charming heritage details throughout, this cosy retreat blends comfort with countryside calm. Meet our friendly farm animals and enjoy a taste of slow living on our sixth-generation hillfarm

The space
Autumn is a beautiful time to stay in the shepherds hut, the Welsh hills turn golden and the waterfalls are at their best after the rain. The hut itself stays wonderfully cosy with underfloor heating and an electric log-burner-style heater. If the weather turns, guests are welcome to sit in the greenhouse with a book and a cup of tea while listening to the rain on the glass. We also have drying racks in the tractor shed for walking boots and a tumble dryer available, so you can head back out exploring the next day feeling warm and dry.

Built with care and full of design touches that honour the past, our handcrafted shepherd’s hut is your cosy base for your North Wales adventure. Whether you plan to explore Snowdonia, hike the Clwydian hills, or simply sit still and soak it all in, Plas Uchaf invites you to breathe, rest, and reconnect.

You’ll find modern comforts including underfloor heating, an electric log burner, WiFi, fluffy duvets, soft lighting, and a compact kitchen with induction hob, kettle, toaster, and mini fridge. The ensuite has a large shower, towels and a large illuminated mirror.

The hut is set apart from the main farmhouse, offering privacy while still being part of the farm’s rhythm. You’ll have your own private outside seating area surrounded by wildflowers and raised beds filled with cut flowers for farm fresh hand picked bouquets. In the evenings watch the sunset over the mountain while you toast marshmallows in the fire pit (a bag of logs will be included), then enjoy some of the darkest skies around - the middle of nowhere never felt so much like home!

Complimentary seasonal treats await your arrival and the hut is well stocked with books and games. There is a dedicated private parking close by and an undercover area to store your bikes.

Your stay includes access to:
✔ Our 17th-century walled garden
✔ Our private ancient woodland paths and wildflower meadows
✔ The orchard and farm pond, perfect for birdwatching or reading nearby
✔ Friendly resident animals: Beulah sheep, cows, peacocks and our affectionate farm cat will likely want to say hello!

We’re happy to offer a short tour of the farm and share stories about the land, our restoration progress or the people who lived here before us on this Grade II* listed site.

The village of Llannefydd is a short drive or bike ride away, where you will find a pub with a seasonal menu and an ancient church steeped in Welsh history. There are a number of walks close by including the North Wales Pilgrim Way.

Perfectly positioned between coast and mountains, Plas Uchaf is ideal for those who love to explore.

Guest access
Follow the farm track towards the farm yard, passing the tranquil farm pond and your cosy shepherd’s hut nearby. You’re welcome to park beside the red brick garage, just a short stroll down a winding footpath to your peaceful retreat. You will pass the entrance to the walled garden, your private outside seating area and the small bistro patio to your hut. If you arrive after dark, lights will guide you down the path

Other things to note
Plas Uchaf isn’t just a place to stay , it’s a place we’re bringing back to life. We’re the sixth generation to farm this land, and we’ve made it our mission to restore its historic buildings, gardens, and traditions for future generations.

Your stay supports more than a holiday, it helps us continue the slow and careful restoration of a 17th-century walled garden, traditional outbuildings, and an ancient orchard that had all but disappeared under bramble. We’ve also trialled a willow bed (after learning basketmaking from local craftspeople) and are beginning to reintroduce heritage crafts and wildflower planting across the land.

Each project is guided by what was here before. We often work with heritage bodies and local historians to make sure that what we’re rebuilding stays rooted in the story of this place.

We’re not a polished estate or large-scale tourism business. We’re a working Welsh hill farm trying to do things with care, creativity, and conscience. If you love slow living, old walls, and the quiet satisfaction of seeing something restored rather than replaced, you’ll feel right at home.
