Medieval Fort, Sud Ardèche stunning loft with pool

Formally a fortified castle “Fort de La Bastide “ was constructed on the site of a Roman military station. The earliest historical mention is 1417 and it's long history includes an invasion in 1584 by Protestants during the period of the Huguenot wars. The fort has maintained many original features including the old stone staircase at the front door leading up to a 4 bedroomed loft apartment . There is full access to the large garden including an 10mx4m in-ground heated swimming pool .

Large private terrace above the Galaure, with views of the ruins of an ancient feudal castle (in which Isoarde des Baux was imprisoned) and La Chapelle Notre-Dame-De-Vals. The Ardèche River is 150 m away, Aubenas, Balazuc and Ruoms are a 15-minute drive away, Vallon-Pont-d'Arc is 20 minutes away. The accommodation has a terrace as well as much appreciated air conditioning in this area.

Typical of the region, our family home has been mentioned in local history since the 12th century. We have carefully restored and comfortably furnished 2 large rooms on the 1st floor of the Castle. You share the library lounge and can on reservation share our table d'hôtes some evenings. The atmosphere is calm and friendly.
