The name of the river derives from the Old Norse "Griótá", meaning "stony stream". The cottage dates to the mid-1800s and has recently had an extensive refurbishment bringing the property up to the highest of standards. The cottage has been sympathetically modernised to reflect a contemporary feel whilst acknowledging its history and Lake District heritage.
