As a culture writer for outlets like Vanity Fair, it’s my job to discover art galleries, stores and eateries that shape neighborhoods and cities. On this experience, I’m thrilled to share the best of my home, LA's historic Arts District, with you. We’ll visit some of the essential spots and undiscovered gems loved by locals like: • A local rooftop, where we’ll toast our adventure while overlooking the city. • Cutting edge art galleries, some of my favorite stores, and unique snacks by way of Little Tokyo. • We will end our adventure at one of the Arts District's most famous and historic breweries. You’ll leave the district with a deeper appreciation for the neighborhood's rich history, artistic culture, and constant evolution.

Uncover LA's Haunted History and the True Crimes of Downtown

Guided by "Gourmet Ghosts" author James T. Bartlett, step into downtown's spookiest locations and explore the architecture, crimes - and ghost stories - of LA's dark and deadly history. We start at the Biltmore Hotel, where the "Black Dahlia" was last seen alive, where ghosts haunt the ballrooms, and where a classic ghost movie was filmed. We then walk a block to Oviatt's Deadly Dream, the palace of Fashionista and designer James Oviatt - and building he still haunts after it killed him. Next we'll stop outside the Cecil Hotel. Two serial killers stayed here, and we will revisit Elisa Lam - the girl found dead on the roof water tank - and hear about the hotel's place at the center of "Suicide Triangle." Back on Spring Street, we will visit the building that now houses the Last Bookstore, and conjure up their resident ghost by going behind-the-scenes to where he died. Opposite is the Alexandria Hotel and its "Ghost Wing", which has been sealed off from the world for over 85 years, and we'll find out why the LAPD were searching for a "Ghost Woman" who had murdered a guest. Also we visit the unique skylit Bradbury Building. Known for appearing in "Blade Runner" and "The Artist", this 132 year-old legend was born came from a ghostly encounter through time. Learn to Fly an airplane Above LA

Prior to boarding, pose like a seasoned pro for a photo shoot with the airplane. Once you’re on board, the pilot will give you an overview of the instruments and controls. After getting clearance from the tower, you’ll taxi to the runway for takeoff. Once at cruising altitude, you’ll learn basic flying skills in the training area over the Simi Valley. Then, grab hold of the controls and feel free to move about the skies, exploring LA by air. Finally, in preparation for landing, you’ll come back down to earth at Van Nuys Airport. Other things to note IMPORTANT : This experience is currently only offered as a private experience. The guest has to book both spots on the experience and will be allowed to bring an additional guest to sit in the back seat. Only one guest will be in the front seat. Approximate flight time is 40 mins Expect a cancellation if there is bad weather. Only two passengers are allowed per ride to create a guest-focused experience.
