Challis is the perfect destination for anyone who loves the great outdoors. The great outdoors also love eating everything in our yard. We can't wait to meet you!
“The little cabin was amazing! We stayed in December and it was super warm when we arrived (at 11 pm). Savannah did a great job decorating the cabin, it felt so homey. Challis is a beautiful town, we would definitely stay again!”
Come and enjoy a peaceful stay in our off grid cabin. A year-round get a way destination from the busyness of life, that will enable you to relax and unwind as you enjoy spectacular views, wildlife in their natural habitat, and the soothing sound of gently flowing water in our creek. Located on our historical I Bar Ranch, along Mill Creek, sits our off-grid, custom built, timber frame cabin. This pristine location is situated within the Challis-Salmon National Forest.
“When we pulled out of Challis going north to Claire’s cabin, we had basically no idea what we were getting into. From pavement to gravel to dirt, the roads thinned as the signs of life did, right as we started to think we were getting lost, we got to the gate of Challis National Forest, at the top of Corkscrew grade, and it took our breath away. The rest of the trip there on out was perfect. The cabin is tucked in the corner of Claire’s I-Bar ranch, a small horse ranch in a deep valley. Claire greeted us as we got there, gave us a quick run down of the “rules of the cabin”, hopped back on the mule and drove off to tend to the horses in a field we could see from our front porch. The cabin is “off-the-grid” meaning it’s powered by solar panels and gas, but you’d have no idea from the inside, as it is a cozy one room cabin with all the amenities you could hope for. A wood burning stove keeps the cabin as hot as you prefer (which for my girlfriend is about 105 degrees), there is an oven, fridge, stove, pots and pans, cutlery, and farm fresh eggs for the morning. The decorating inside is rustic enough to satisfy what you’re looking for when staying in a small remote cabin in Idaho, while being tasteful enough to impress my West Elm/Magnolia Farms/interior decorating fan of a girlfriend. The front porch is perfect for sitting and watching the sun set over the mountains as the horses graze in the field 150 yards away. There’s a fire pit with fairy lights just adjacent to the cabin next to the stream that runs through the property. There is also a large grassy area around the cabin where we let our dog run until he could barely jump back on the porch to come in. The owners live on the property, and they are the perfect mix of hospitable when you arrive and respect your space the rest of your visit. We were celebrating a special occasion when we visited, and after a super stressful stretch of a couple weeks, we couldn’t be happier with our experience. We got to unplug (though we didn’t have to, they have solar powered WiFi!) and enjoy each other’s company while cooking ourselves a big meal, having a drink or two on the porch and played the games they provided in the chest at the end of the bed laughing until past midnight. We fell asleep to the sounds of the wood stove crackling as it died down, and woke up to make a big old “cowboy breakfast” before heading out. If you want the perfect mix of cabin in the woods and the creature comforts of home, this is the perfect spot. Will definitely be trying to get back at some point, and I recommend you get out here too. To Claire and family, thank you for everything!”

“I booked this for my husband who was away on business and pleasure, I looked for him somewhere private and quite where he could have quiet and solitude. There is no cell phone reception in the area, but miss Jolene went out of her way to help him hook to her Wi-Fi so that he could make phone calls and have access. My husband loved being there and the hospitality of Jolene and Marshall, if we ever go in the area again this place will be a for sure stop for us as a family! Can't say enough good about the place and the hosts. My husband is very pleased!!!! Book it you won't regret!”
