This train is located on the historic Golden Chain Highway, now called Highway 49 named after the 49ers who came seeking their fortune. Just a short drive to Yosemite National Park and nestled in the foothills of a California gold rush town, the Caboose is a part of the Vacation Station, a decommissioned train that has been lovingly converted into a vacation rental.
“The reaction my husband had when he realized he was going to be staying in the caboose was priceless. This is a place to stay where you will make memories. Family memories. Childhood memories. Travel memories. The caboose was exactly as pictured. It is surreal that you are actually eating and sleeping in a real train. Nealy and the owner have thought of everything. We cooked two meals and were able to store all our travel provisions. I was concerned that the train wound not be warm enough in the dead of winter but the split system heating system is quiet and effective, but for a quick chill in the bathroom in the morning. We were quite cozy in the comfortable queen bed, and celebrated our success of finding such a unique experience in the elevated cupola space. We have already recommended to members of our family that they bring their grandchildren for a trip to the Vacation Station to experience the glory days of life on the rails. P.s. Be sure to tour the museum next door, especially the outside, to experience Coulterville in the early days. Wish I could have scheduled our trip for their Heritage Rose festival in May, their 4th of July parade, or their Coyote Festival in late Sept. It really is a quaint mining town with a memorable drive on Hwy 49.”
Beautiful 28 ft RV trailer, set on 30 acres a privite woodsy space . We are about 25 miles from the entrance to Yosemite. Lots of hiking. biking or just relaxing.
“Truly a 5-star experience. The rental was immersed in the woods which is not a view you get out of any hotel window! The RV has all the necessary amenities plus some. The hospitality was next to none. Diane and Rob were always available and took great care of my dog while I visited Yosemite. Even gave us fresh coffee and breakfast snacks in the morning. Will definitely be back and have already told all my friends. Highly recommended experience! On a side note, try 9 Diamonds BBQ at the end of the driveway. Best I’ve ever had, and I used to live off of Texas BBQ!”
Our rental is 42 miles from the Yosemite's Big Oak Flat Entrance. We are kid & pet friendly hosts. The studio features a fenced yard with a gas BBQ, refrigerator, microwave, Keurig coffee brewer, toaster, electric skillet, plates, bowls & utensils. We have a 2 night minimum stay.
“Ron and Dru's place has sealed AirBnB as my number one preference for safe and comfortable stays. No more hotels and motels. Their cottage is straight out of a fairy tale and is the perfect place to be if you're visiting Yosemite. This cottage deserves a minimum 3 night visit where at least an entire day is spent just enjoying the cottage itself and ignoring the world outside. Ron and Dru are amazing hosts, great to chat with and gave us the best advice for drives, gas, planning our Yosemite trip. We're going to remember this trip for a long long time thanks to these wonderful AirBnB hosts. I'm surely recommending this place to others and I'll be back myself too. It offers much more than what it says on the website. Don't forget to check out the patio, backyard and the piano!”
