Safety tip: Review guest profiles

If you want to know more about a guest before accepting their reservation request, check out their profile or read reviews from past hosts. Hosts and guests can only review each other after a guest checks out, so you know the feedback is based on actual reservations.

How to file a reimbursement request

1. Gather evidence of damage

This may include photos, videos, estimates, and/or receipts.

2. Contact your guest through the Resolution Centre

Request reimbursement within 14 days of checkout or before your next guest checks in, whichever is earlier. They'll have 72 hours to respond to your request.

3. Get reimbursed or involve Airbnb

If the guest is unwilling to pay the full amount, you may be eligible for reimbursement under Airbnb's Host Guarantee. A support specialist will guide you through the process.

Airbnb's Host Guarantee is subject to certain terms, conditions, and exclusions. Visit our Host Guarantee Terms and Conditions to learn more.

Airbnb’s Host Guarantee is not an insurance policy, and not all property damage caused by guests is within its terms. If you want more protection, you’re encouraged to purchase personal insurance that will cover property damage not protected by the Host Guarantee.

What’s the difference between Airbnb's Host Guarantee
and Host Protection Insurance?

The Host Guarantee and Host Protection Insurance programme are two separate programmes that Airbnb offers to help cover hosts in the event of damage or injury.

Host Guarantee: Airbnb's Host Guarantee is designed to protect hosts in the rare instance of property damage to their own possessions, unit, or home by a guest staying in the space. The Host Guarantee is not insurance and doesn’t replace your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance.

Host Protection Insurance: The Host Protection Insurance programme is insurance, and is designed to cover hosts in the event of third-party claims of bodily injury or property damage. The Host Protection Insurance programme is available to hosts regardless of their other insurance arrangements, but will only act as primary insurance coverage for incidents related to an Airbnb stay. How do I request reimbursement under the Host Guarantee?

Often hosts and guests resolve issues on their own in our Resolution Centre. If you haven’t already, first contact your guest to notify them of your complaint and submit a payment request in our Resolution Centre.

If you can’t resolve an issue with the guest: First, please familiarise yourself with the terms and conditions of the Host Guarantee. Note that requests must be submitted either within 14 days of the guest’s checkout or before the next guest checks in, whichever is earlier. Learn more

How does homeowner's insurance work with Airbnb?

Airbnb’s Host Protection Insurance will act as primary insurance and provides liability coverage to hosts and, where applicable, their landlords, subject to certain conditions, limitations, and exclusions.

If you have questions about how this policy interacts with any homeowner’s or renter’s insurance, you should discuss your coverage with your insurance provider. Some policies protect homeowners and renters from certain lawsuits that result from injury to a visitor, while others do not. It’s always a good idea to let your insurance company know about rental activity in your space even though liability arising during an Airbnb stay should be covered by the Host Protection Insurance policy.
