The Lavaca Neighborhood Historic District is San Antonio’s oldest neighborhood. We’re just across S.Alamo St from the popular King William Neighborhood Historic District. Together these make up Southtown- the local’s downtown. The Riverwalk is fantastic, but parts are so touristy that it loses its charm for the locals...you’ll find us in Southtown at one of the bars or restaurants or out walking the Riverwalk that runs through our neighborhood. It’s close enough to everything but far enough to avoid the crowds and commercialism. We hope you enjoy visiting San Antonio as a local! Breakfast: - Taco Haven (8 min walk) for amazing breakfast tacos at a great price (Just a $1 during the week! And $1.79 on the weekend) - The Guenther House (10min walk) in King William for delicious baked treats and gorgeous gardens and outdoor seating area overlooking the river. - Schilo’s Delicatessen (15min walk) on Commerce, the oldest deli in town, German heritage, great eggs and bacon breakfast...or if you need some Schnitzel for lunch (don’t miss their Split Pea Soup or you’ll be sorry!) - The Pearl (5 minute drive away) Fantastic food and coffee at Local Coffee, and Bakery Lorraine (which has these amazing Fruity Pebbles Homemade PopTarts, and lovely Macaroons that you can take home with you). - LuLu’s (a 7 min drive) on the other side of downtown...warning- this is a hole-in-the-wall...but they were featured on Man vs Food for their 3 LB Cinnamon Roll!!! (No joke- its the size of a cafeteria tray!) Brunch on Sunday: The Guenther House(a 10-12 min walk along the river) : amazing brunch items and baked goods! A beautiful outside seating area on the river. Stella (at Blue Star) (10-12min walk): Inexpensive Mimosas and a fairly sophisticated menu. Coffee: Commonwealth (a short 7 min walk to Hemisfair, on the way to the convention center)- this beautiful, historic coffee and breakfast spot is amazing! Delicious coffee, handmade treats, and a beautiful atmosphere. And ... they give a discount to military and teachers! Halcyon at the Blue Star Arts Complex (10-12 min walk) Large variety of coffees and teas in a relaxed, comfy atmosphere. Right next to Riverwalk access. Lunch or Dinner B&Ds Ice house (7min walk)... you may catch a whiff of their smokers as you walk through the neighborhood...this is Texas Brisket at it’s finest! Don’t miss out on their Green Chile Mac and Cheese while you’re there. Rosarios (3 min walk) or Tito’s (5-7min walk): these are our local Mexican Restaurants. At Rosario’s don’t miss the Margaritas ... at Tito’s the Cilantro Cream Enchiladas are delicious. Bliss (7 min walk) One of the best restaurants in San Antonio. Amazing cuisine perfect for special occasions. Do yourself a favor and order the fried oyster po-boys. Their mixed drinks are also really good. Feast (8 min walk) Modern, American cuisine. Hip atmosphere. Solid menu, small portions made to share. Battalion (5 min walk) Italian. A new upscale restaurant housed in the old fire house, now beautifully renovated. Dinner only, not open on Sunday. Maverick(a 9 min walk): a new favorite! Amazing food!!! Cool atmosphere! Local ingredients cooked over a wood fire. Casual, laid back, and... friendly. 1919: A speakeasy at the Blue Star Arts Complex...these are the sophisticated mixed drinks you want! Bar America, literally right down the street. Modern Bar, very popular on weekends. Francis Bogside(corner of St. Mary’s and Madison): awesome place to go hang out with friends! Great drinks, gourmet apps, and free classic arcade games. This place is really cool! Tower of Americas Happy Hour (down the street) Enjoy an amazing view with amazing drinks at an affordable price. Great location in the heart of Downtown San Antonio, TX. You are walking distance from The Riverwalk, Henry B. Gonzales Center and many popular bars/restaurants. Your room also comes equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, coffee machine and SmartTV with access to Netflix in the rare chance you get bored. Don't forget you're also getting a beautiful view of the Tower Of The Americas.
The house itself sits on Refugio Street (spanish for refuge) as it very much does give off the vibe of being nestled away within the city. Please be aware of the fact that you are renting out the bedroom along with the upstairs bathroom. We have consistently been rated upon the condition of the entire house. You are renting the room, NOT THE HOUSE. We are in the process of running cosmetic repairs and while you are more than welcome to access most parts of the house, please be aware that anything outside of your upstairs bedroom/bathroom have not been set-up to accommodate AirBnB guests. Again, we don't mind guests using any of our shared spaces. All we ask is that you be considerate and communicate all of your needs!
Neighborhood is very peaceful. Great for walking your dog or simply sight-seeing.

Originally built in 1904, the Retama is a 600 sqft, fully-renovated and updated historic bungalow situated in San Antonio’s oldest historic district — Lavaca. At the turn of the century, residents of Lavaca were primarily middle class, German-speaking immigrants. To read more about the Lavaca Historic District — https://www.sanantonio.gov/Mission-Trails/Mission-Trails-Historic-Sites/Historic-Districts-Neighborhoods/Lavaca-Historic-District/Lavaca-Historic-District-Expanded Today, Lavaca is still as vibrant and diverse as it was one hundred years ago — revealing a patchwork of colorful homes as unique as the people living in them. Your retreat in the city! Lavanderie is a clean, rustic, historic, 19th-century Cottage nestled in a private gated garden right in the heart of San Antonio. Literally across the street from the world famous Riverwalk and within walking distance from great shopping, restaurants, and bars. Only a 10 min walk from the World Heritage Alamo and a 1/2 mile from the Blue Star Arts Complex. It's perfect for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. Modern fun in a historic setting!
Staying at Lavanderie is an experience with the comforts of home, even though you're right in the heart of a city full of things to do and see! This romantic cottage is located on the estate of the Gustav Giesecke House in the King William Historic District of San Antonio and is a perfect romantic getaway or experience - something other than your traditional boring hotel room. There are no elevators or flights of stairs, although it is a bit of a cross the yard hike to the property so you may choose to reconsider wearing heals. Its rustic charm is more akin to a stay in a log cabin in the forest than a century-old guest house in the middle of the city, yet its fully appointed with linens, terry, soaps and shampoos - all the amenities you'd expect from a hotel stay. The bedroom, the majority of the original structure, houses a comfortable queen-sized bed with pillow top mattress. Original wood floors still run throughout. When you'd like to freshen up, the bathroom has a nice shower, the original claw foot tub and is stocked with thick, fluffy, super soft, oversized towels, soaps, and shampoos/conditioner. This cottage, “the wash house”, is what remains of the Victorian frame home and wash house build here in 1889 by Gustav Giesecke and his bride, Anna Francisca Groos. Their original frame home was demolished in 1915 when the couple expanded the property and built the large, brick, two-story, Arts-and-Crafts house which now stands as the main home on the estate. The Victorian wash house was converted into a guest cottage in 1950 with the addition of the sitting room and kitchen area and renovated in 2010. You'll find this snug, yet a comfortable space to get away and relax. In the area added by the two renovations, there's living/dining space, a small but 'mighty' kitchen, 32" flat panel TV with free Netflix. If you travel with your own entertainment, the TV fully supports connecting a Firestick or other devices via HDMI and USB. Your kitchen is small but still completely appointed with refrigerator, range/oven, microwave... and all the necessary cooking and dining utensils, coffee maker, plates, glasses, etc. to enjoy your own home-cooked meals, if you choose to cook. However, the entrance to the Riverwalk is right across the street and restaurants serving all varieties of cuisine can be found a short walk away. Parking is free, but only available on the street and is time limited by the city. We’ll help you stay in compliance so it remains free. Since 1889, only two families have owned the home and grounds. You'll see magnificent pecan and cypress trees on the property, these are believed to be centuries old. Native plants fill the lush garden surrounding Lavanderie. These plants provide a haven for wild birds so you'll likely see many varieties during your stay. Your cottage is a small, yet warm and comfortable retreat (500 sq. ft.) for you, or you and a loved one. If Lavanderie is available on dates you're looking at, grab that booking fast! Open dates do not last long. This is a very safe neighborhood and within walking distance to food, fun, everything really!
Your retreat cottage sits in a private, gated garden, in one corner of the Gustav Giesecke estate in the elegant King William Historic District. The neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as one of San Antonio's oldest and most architecturally significant areas. The grand houses of this neighborhood were built by successful German immigrants on the land bordering the San Antonio River and formerly farmed by the Spanish missions. Right across the street you'll arrive at the start of the world-famous San Antonio Riverwalk (on the San Antonio River) which offers shopping, dining and entertainment for all tastes. Feel free to stroll the area. Welcome to your perfect romantic escape.

Nestled into our family's backyard are two private and separate guest units, each with their own deck and separate entrance. Completely private!! Every effort to use beautiful wood and make a space you will be happy to wake up in as well as rest your weary feet. Centrally located in King William Historic Neighborhood and close to the Riverwalk, Downtown, Alamo, BlueStar and Pearl plus easy access to Fort Sam, SAMC, Lackland, Randolph, & Medical Center.
Set up like a luxury hotel room and close enough to walk to the riverwalk, Alamo, Bluestar, wonderful breweries and tons of great food yet stay in a quiet, peaceful and quaint neighborhood just named one of the 5 most walkable neighborhoods in the country!
Our neighborhood is full of homes built at the turn of the century. There is not a street where your eyes get tired of looking at the architecture! The downtown, horseshoe section of the River Walk; San Antonio’s riverside promenade opened in 1941. IT has long influenced other cities eager to replicate its development-spurring success. By expanding the River Walk from three to 15 miles in 2013, the path now comes two blocks from our home and is linked to five Spanish colonial missions. Sticking largely to the extended linear park, you can access a wide range of attractions, including the mission (collectively named a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2015) as well as Blue Star (a complex in our neighborhood with restaurants and shops), Briscoe Western Art Museum, Tobin Center (a performing arts center), Pearl Brewery (a premier complex with high end independent shops and restaurants).

Awaken in a minimalist bedroom with walls of limed and rough-hewn wood paneling. Traditional and reclaimed materials combine with contemporary design to create a unique and cozy space. Read a book on the shady front porch of this historic house.
The Studio is perfect for a single traveler or a couple who are looking for a comfortable, intimate, beautifully-designed space to call home. The bedroom features a mix of original and new wood, while the unique bathroom features plaster and copper piping details. The design is definitely unique among any room you have stayed in before--we had fun with these rooms! The queen-sized bed has nightstands, lights, and outlets on either side of the bed. On the opposite wall, the amenity shelves have all the essentials: wifi, Roku TV, mini-fridge, microwave, coffee-maker, and basic glassware and dishes. In one corner is a full-height wardrobe with room for hanging and drawer storage. The bathroom has a spacious stand-up shower, toilet and single sink with mirror above. The ceiling fan will do a lot to make the space comfortable year-round, especially when combined with open windows on a lovely day. However, on hot summer days and cold winter nights, a new minisplit on the wall opposite the bed will do the heavy lifting to efficiently heat and cool the space. The room features 100-year-old long-leaf pine on the bed wall, all of which is original to this 1907 house. The hardwood floors are also original. New white-washed pine boards line the other walls (and serve as the backdrop for some of our architecture drawings). The east-facing windows get beautiful morning light, which can be softened with translucent white curtains. To bring daylight into the bathroom while maintaining privacy, we installed a frosted sliding glass door. The bathroom itself has a distinct palette of custom plaster, rich floor tile, and custom wood shelves (also made from long-leaf pine harvested from the house). We hand-made the vanity and mirror base with backlight. The plumbing is all new with custom-design exposed copper piping. Don't forget to enjoy the private porch--perfect for relaxing outdoors under the trees, with great street/people-watching views from the right angle.
The house is in the King William neighborhood, right between the main boulevard, the river, and the bustling activity of Alamo Street. Many restaurants, bars, and shops are within a 10-minute walk. The famous Riverwalk begins 15 minutes upriver.

A tiny home with pool in walking distance of the Alamo and Riverwalk in the super cool historic Lavaca neighborhood of Southtown. Great view of the Tower of the Americas from your own patio. Cute tiny living space made from shipping container--great for single, cozy for couple. Heritage materials--vintage wood, glass, tile--throughout. Deck with own brick bbq area + outdoor shower. Semi-stocked mini-fridge, country sink. Aveda products. Private parking place in alley. Xeriscaping, fruit trees.
Walk, bike, scooter all around central San Antonio from this utterly unique tiny home. Moments from some of San Antonio's finest restaurants, best ice houses, hippest bars, best taco stops plus the city's coolest popsicle shop. Splash in the property's pool or soak in some San Antonio sunshine as you roll out of bed. There's even a private patio area for your dog--just make sure you pick up after him/her before you leave...
The Lavaca neighborhood in Southtown is San Antonio's oldest residential neighborhood. Our house was built in 1895 by the chief operator of the Western Union at the turn of that century. The neighborhood has galleries, restaurants and bars and is next to the historic King William neighborhood with its mansions and more galleries, restaurants and bars! The Blue Star Arts Complex, the Riverwalk and HemisFair with the Convention Center, the Institute of Texan Cultures and the Mexican Cultural Institute and, of course, the Alamo, are all a short walk away.

Please read thru ENTIRE listing before booking / inquiring; in particular look for the asterisks * for particularly important bits. I appreciate you in advance! Come enjoy our cozy space just steps from the historic King William, the Riverwalk, great restaurants, and the Blue Star Arts District. Tucked inside the Southtown neighborhood - the neighborhood on the southern border of the King William neighborhood - we are centrally located to everything San Antonio has to offer.
As someone who travels alone, I know how hard it is to find an affordable place to stay so we decided to create an oasis for the single traveler! That said... Read on! Cozy efficiency with private entrance, private bath, ‘kitchenette’ and a private sitting area with overhead fan on the wraparound porch of our 110+ year old home. Enjoy your own private bathroom, Bluetooth enabled radio / alarm clock / charging station for your phone, fridge, sink, toaster oven, microwave, coffee / tea facilities and utensils for 2 should you have a friend / colleague come hang out. And though there is NO TV, we do offer free Wifi and surge protector. B Cycle bike rentals are 2 blocks from the house, and there are 4 separate busses within easy walking distance that will take you Downtown and beyond. That said, the Riverwalk and downtown San Antonio are minutes away by foot. The room only accommodates 1 with a comfy Tuft and Needle mattress tucked into it's own little niche in the room. WE have 2 dogs now, sadly our Calamity Jane passed away last Halloween, Miss Lili and the latest addition, Ginger. *Ginger, our PTSD dog is a special case; she is afraid of everything, people included and so needs to be corralled in - what this means to you is that we need a 15 MINUTE HEADS UP minimum coming and going or if you’d like to hang out on the porch. *This is VERY IMPORTANT. If you feel that’s a hassle, please look elsewhere. We also have 3 cats, whom you will likely never see as they tend to stick to the backyard .. away from 'pesky' dogs!j
I've lived in the Southtown neighborhood most of the almost 20 years I've been in San Antonio... I gravitated to it from the very beginning - even ended up buying a house (this one!) on my favorite street It very much has the feel of a small town tucked inside a sprawling city where we all know and look out for one another. Just a great place to live!

Originally built in 1904, the MARIGOLD is a 600 sqft, fully-renovated and updated historic bungalow situated in San Antonio’s oldest historic district — Lavaca. We’ve lost count of all the new coffee houses, restaurants, revived breweries, unique shops, art galleries, and parks that have opened recently — so, we encourage our guests to explore and to let us know when they have an incredible experience somewhere, so we can share it with our new guests.
