If you love views, relaxation and romance, then Sea & Sky is for you. It’s on the top floor of a late-Georgian house in The Crescent, a quiet enclave in the cultural centre of Scarborough, England’s first resort. A huge dormer window looks out over a peaceful public garden and the atmospheric Scarborough Art Gallery. There’s the iconic Grand Hotel and Scarborough Castle on the left, and the Esplanade with its white-stuccoed buildings to the right.
In winter, the harbour and Scarborough lighthouse peep through the trees. No wonder the Sitwells, the famous literary family who once lived in Woodend the stunning Victorian house next door, were inspired. We think watching the sunrise with an early morning cup of Yorkshire tea could become addictive. Light and airy Sea & Sky is the perfect hideaway for singles and couples who want to get away from it all, yet still have the attractions of a beautiful spa town on the doorstep. It boasts a stylish open-plan kitchen and living area, with everything from the usual mod-cons and dishwasher to a built-in wine cooler. There are two double bedrooms, one ensuite with a luxurious king-size bed as well as a spacious bathroom with a deep tub that guarantees a relaxing soak. Both bedrooms have French windows that back onto a roomy terrace, the perfect spot for lazing in the late afternoon. Not that you’ll be short of activities. Scarborough is one of the healthiest, most invigorating places to unwind and de-stress. There are miles of stunning coastline to explore, from secluded bays to wide stretches of sandy beach that rival any in Europe. Then there’s the North Yorks Moors National Park with its rolling dales and rugged moorland, the ultimate destination for striding out, cycling or simply discovering tea-shops and the perfect home-baked scone. We couldn’t leave without mentioning that our neighbor, Woodend, is now home to some of the area’s leading creative businesses and a must-see gallery space. There’s also an annual literary festival in the town plus a world-class theatre, The Stephen Joseph, which premieres Alan Aykbourn’s latest plays, and much more. Someone recently called Scarborough, the Edge of Heaven. In true Yorkshire fashion we’d have to agree.

This brought the Prince of Wales and his lady friends, Mrs Keppel and Lilly Langtry. (the stunning Prince of Wales Terrace is the block behind the property) The South Cliff architectural heritage remains here with the great Terraces, a mass of Victorian architecture on the grand scale, hardly paralleled elsewhere in northern resorts.
