What you'll do

Strasbourg stands at a crossroad in the heart of Europe and a confluence of waterways, where History and stories met more than once over time. From the Roman origins of the legionary camp of Argentoratum to the canals of the Petite France neighbourhood, from the elegant avenues of the Neustadt to the peaceful shores of the European district (optional), we will stroll, across time and along the water in the meanders of Strasbourg urban history.
We will begin our journey at the foot of the Vauban dam, whose panoramic terrace dominates the city and offers a unique panorama of the Petite France neighbourhood. We will follow the banks of the canals and river Ill to the Place d'Austerlitz.
Place d'Austerlitz, we will focus on the bronze model of Strasbourg Grande Ile, and the secrets it contains.
We will then head to the Cathedral, the heart of the medieval city at the crossroads of the Roman cardo and decumanus, before reaching Place Broglie where the Marseillaise, France national anthem, was sung for the first time in 1792.
We will then cross the Faux-Rempart ditch to reach Place de la République, the former political centre of Strassburg, capital of the Länder Elsass-Lothringen (1871-1918), before strolling through the streets of the German district, between the University and the European Parliament (the European district visit is
optional).
Other things to note
Count a little over 3 hours for the walk. It can be tiring for people with walking difficulties and young children.

Lionel not only knows a lot about the rich history and culture of Straßbourg. As an architect he manages to explain it very well through the various architectural styles that represent different periods of time in the city. I definitely enjoyed his unique angle. He is also a very pleasant character. I can only recommend his tour! :)
