What you'll do

Over a gorgeous afternoon tea at the The Ham Yard Hotel (awarded 'Best Afternoon Tea' at the prestigious Harden’s London Restaurant Awards) you'll be introduced to a literary treat of books that explore feelings you've never quite understood before - or books that bring new meaning, hope, perspective on an existing situation - or simply books that focus on a niche that you've been hoping to explore for a while but never had the time. We will examine your reading life including reading habits, goals, interests and personal needs and create a personalised book prescription that you will take home and keep to inspire your reading list.

(And in case you are wondering, I specialise in fiction and both creative and narrative nonfiction as well as poetry and philosophy.)

As a little girl, I loved receiving book recommendations from friends and family. Finding the next great read became an addictive habit to mitigate those post-book blues. I loved helping others find new books too. I've been prescribing literature for both personal interest & therapy for the last 5 years in California, Sydney & London. My recommendations have featured in the Guardian and other UK publications.

Although my background is mathematics and finance, I wanted to pursue my passion for literature, writing and psychology having successfully published a non-fiction book titled "The Happiness Mindset". I've completed a diploma in psychodynamic counselling and am a member of the International Federation of Library Associations and the American Library Association. This complements my passion for carefully curating apt books for others

It was easy to locate the hotel. The ambiance of the hotel is really nice. Bijal is a great host. We had a nice chat about books and reading goals. Her knowledge on books and literary trends is very affecting. She provided helpful inputs on my reading life. You can sense her passion on books during our talks. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who wishes to start on a reading habit, and to gain insight on their reading life.

A wonderful experience! Totally recommended. Bijal was very knowledgeable and made you feel very comfortable independently of your reading choices/habits. She was also a very enjoyable company for a lovely afternoon tea in a beautiful place. We came out of it feeling great and with a personalized list of books (and other tips) picked for our preferences. Thank you Bijal!

A lovely, unique, and thoughtful experience. Bijal is a fantastic host, kind and good hearted, who took time ahead of our time together to inquire and personalize the experience for me. Our time was full of interesting conversation and yummy tea. This was my first book prescription and I loved Bijal's suggestions, which felt very tailored to me. I'm looking forward to exploring them and highly recommend this experience.

It was a lovely afternoon with Bijal. She is kind and shared detailed book recommendations. I enjoyed the conversation with her:) She even recommended a bookstore nearby which was quite nice. The location and the afternoon tea was nice and there is a vegan option as well.

From just a brief exchange beforehand, Bijal managed to get a very good insight into what might be of interest to me. I had a wonderful afternoon with a superb tea and a lively discussion about books, different cultures and bibliotherapy, an intriguing concept I wasn't aware of before. I'm excited to get a crack on my bespoke book prescription.
