What you'll do

We'll meet at Tottenham Hale tube station and then walk down to Hackney Wick (almost) entirely through parks, woods, and nature reserves. If you're lucky, you'll see an abundance of bird life (egrets, cormorants, herons, coots, geese, etc.), cows, horses and a bunch of house boats. This is not manicured Royal parkland, this is wild London, beloved by locals. The total walk is around 10km and should take around 2.5hrs, but is obviously dependant upon the speed you walk and how many photo op breaks you take. There’s a convenient drop out spot at 5km too, if you want.

I can do this walk pretty much any time during daylight on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. So please message me if you fancy going at different times than are currently listed. I am flexible!

I've been living in London since 1992 and have seen this city go through some serious changes. One thing remains the same: a need for a little peace and quiet when you're overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle. Let me show you my magical, wild London walk.

Where you'll be

We'll start in Tottenham Hale and end up in vibrant Hackney Wick with many a pub or restaurant to refill yourself from at the end of your walk. On the way, we will walk through a nature reserve and a SSSI, marshland, canal towpaths, alongside a river, and through a woodland. If you get tired, there is a convenient abandon ship point at about 5km in, as well as a pub/toilet break. The full walk is around 10km.

We had a great time with Tank. The set-up and prior communication was easy. We had no difficulty in finding her at the busy Tottenham Hale station. The road along the station was almost the only urban part of our walk. We set off on a nice adventure covering the Walthamstow and Hackney marshes and several tamed and untamed sections of the River Lea. We were transported to another world while still in zone 2. We've been on several London historical walks but this one was refreshingly different. It felt less like a guided walk and more like a tour with a friendly local. Tank's enthusiasm and spirit for the landscape easily made up for the short spell of rain we got caught in. She knew the route well and the small details she provided about the land, birds and plants along the way were new and interesting to us. We highly recommend this walk for tourists and Londoners alike who'd like to experience a slice of unmanicured wilderness in London.
