3 days
Moderate activity level
Includes food, transport
Hosted in English, Spanish, French

What you'll do

Channel your inner 'crocodile dundee' (before he goes to New York!) as you spend time with the farmers and 'guajiros' on our family's tobacco farm, and explore the outer regions of Viñales.

With one-way transport, accommodation, (most) food and (all) adventures included, just come along and enjoy!

We'll horse ride through the picturesque valleys of Viñales to swim in hidden caves or lakes, drink locally made rum and coffee, sample a freshly made honey, and top it off with a handmade cigar, straight from our fields. We'll show you around the farm and talk to you about how each process works, and demonstrate the process of growing and harvesting tobacco and how we roll the cigars to sell to the government (or you!). Dinner today is included in your casa & you have a free evening.

After breakfast we'll collect you in a horse & cart. Today we get totally off the beaten track, with a tour of Viñales (maybe the zipline? river? cave?) & the outer 'pueblos', before a home cooked late lunch/dinner in our family's very rural & humble home. This is completely untouched by tourism, so come with an open mind, a camera & a big appetite!

On your last morning, you're up before the sun to hike to Los Acuaticos to see the sunrise over the three valleys. Prepare for a 40 minute upward hike in the dark (with torches), medium level of difficulty, but it's worth it!

I'm Juan Carlos, founder of private tobacco farm in Viñales, a rural but now popular town in the west of Cuba. I have lived and worked here all my life, learning the tricks of the trade from my grandfathers, and now teaching the same to my children. With the influx of tourism to Cuba, our private business are booming but often visitors to the island only see the touristy facade. Together with my family, we want to show our visitors the real Cuba, the daily life of us 'guajiros', and that there is more to Cuba than just the typical convertible cars and the fallen down buildings in Havana. Here, in the countryside with me and my family, you will find the authentic Cuba. Brace yourself!

We had a great time with the different members of Omar's family. The whole tour was well organised and different activities were split amongst the cousins and uncles. The cigar farm, the horse ride (even though our thighs hurt the following day), and the sunrise hike were the best for me. The tour was great, from the accommodation in a nice Casa, to the traditional food.

Overall, it was a great experience, even though the is room for improvement. Seeing hand-made cigars process was a wonderful experience. The landscape is beautiful and scenic.

First day was really great, our driver Andy has been really nice, we talked a lot and learned lots of things. Horse ride to the farm with Ronaldo and time spent with Michael has been really cool as well. Second day was a bit light in terms of activity. We were supposed to see some viewpointS, we went to one. We also understood we were going to hidden caves or lakes for a swim, instead we went to the big painted mountain full of tourists. After that, the lunch in the farm was simply a regular lunch with our guide, we simply said hello to our host but there were no interactions. This second day ended at the little market around 2pm. Last morning, we were told to wake up early to leave at 5am (but in fact it was 5:30...). Thus we waited 30mn and again 30mn with our guide (nice but not much of a talker) when the taxi had to get the others to the RDV point. “Hike” was more a walk, 25mn not 40. Viewpoint was nice and we had luck to see the sunrise despite the heavy clouds. The host “offered” us coffee but we had to pay it when we left, we should have been warned before that it was not included in the tour. Overall we enjoyed our stay in Viñales but it would have been way more cheaper and not that complicated to organize it ourselves. Given the price and the description, we were simply expecting more.

We had such a fantastic view days with Omar’s family in Vinales. From the moment we arrived we felt super welcome and really felt like we got to learn about and understand life for Cubans in Vinales. The Vinales area is so beautiful made even more so by the ‘secret’ locals spots we were shown and meeting the different family members with different cowboy skills was brilliant. Thanks for making our Christmas so special

Great experience in Viñales. I didn't have to worry about anything as I was picked up from my accommodation in Havana and everything was planned for me. Was nice that I had free time to explore the city on my own as well. The sunrise hike was the highlight for me! Very memorable moment, don't miss the hike.

This was a wonderful trip. The programme consisted of relatively standard elements, but after all that's what everyone wants to see and do in Vinales. What made it special was the relaxed pace and the unique interaction with our hosts. This is a way to learn a lot about Cuba and Vinales without leaving your comfort zone as a tourist.
