This fourteen mile guided bike tour leads you along the Menai Strait, providing breathtaking views of Snowdonia, before heading inland. Anglesey has more prehistoric sites per square mile than any other area of Great Britain. so it's not long before we reach the first of five prehistoric sites we will explore on the tour. Excavations at Castell Bryn Gwyn suggest a fascinating history of settlement spanning thousands of years between the Neolithic and Roman times, close nearby are the Castell Bryn Gwyn standing stones, the tallest surviving standing stones in Wales. The most iconic of the sites we will visit is Bryn Celli Ddu, Neolithic burial chamber, one of the best of its kind in the UK. Travelling by bike along the 14 mile route visiting some of the lesser known siteswill help us connect with the island and imagine what lives were like for the people who lived and worked its landscape.
Along the way I will share with you elements of Anglesey's history from its creation to more modern times, bringing the landscape to life with insight into the islands dramatic past. The tour does include around an hour's walking through fields to access sites, and I recommend long trousers as some paths can sometimes be overgrown,
Other things to note: Each guest must complete a booking form.

I am passionate about cycling and Welsh history. A native Welsh speaker, with a degree in History and Welsh History I love to share the fascinating tales behind Anglesey’s historic and prehistoric sites. I am a British Cycling Ride Leader and volunteer to lead rides to encourage women's cycling.
I have cycled almost all the 1000 miles of road on the rural island of Anglesey, and have visited many of the ancient monuments, to select a pleasant route which also includes a variety of prehistoric sites. I can expertly guide you on a leisurely cycle ride along quiet rural lanes and cycle tracks to and share what I know about the island’s hidden past.

Where you'll be

From numerous monuments marked on the OS map, we visit prehistoric sites along a valley resonant with neolithic archaeology, including the largest standing stone on Anglesey, thought to have been part of a stone circle, the ruined embankments which once protected communities from several different prehistoric eras, the bare stones of a neolithic burial chamber, the remains of a possible Romano-British settlement, and the iconic Bryn Celli Ddu,
