What you'll do

We'll explore Akihabara in an approximately four-hour walking tour to help you learn about what makes it such a special place. After a brief introduction and route confirmation at JR Akihabara station, I'll take you to where the locals go for deals on anime figures, DVDs, interesting electronics, retro and modern video games, cute Japanese toys, and much more! I'm also happy to help you with any specific item requests. Once done shopping, we will stop for a meal or light snacks. Akihabara is home to many great ramen and sushi spots so I'll introduce you to one of my favorites. If you're looking for something on the lighter side, we can stop for taiyaki, a pastry filled with red bean in the shape of a fish! Recharged after a quick bite, we'll experience a bit of modern and traditional Japan. I'll take you to a game arcade to introduce you to the unique and fun games you can only find in Japan. You'll even have a chance to earn a high score by dancing it up or hitting Japanese drum replicas! You may even win a prize from one of the UFO catchers. We'll close the tour by visiting Kanda Myojin, a traditional shrine that's been featured in Japanese anime. I'll teach you the correct way to make an offering and help you find a special charm to protect your electronics! If interested, we can also optionally visit an artisan hangout under the tracks, a maid cafe, or an owl cafe too.

Roland

I'm a professional translator who has lived in Japan for over 9 years now. In my previous job, I spent time helping find and introduce interesting tourist spots to foreign travelers. I've also been asked to help interpret and translate for foreign delegations visiting Japan. Aside from my professional work, I am also an avid video gamer and long-time Japanese animation fan. I have a huge collection of games and anime and always looking to add to it by browsing the many great secondhand stores Tokyo has to offer. My personal hobby is city exploration, when I come to a place, I love to explore and find all I can about it. From my walks around Tokyo, I've come to find the best deals, the tastiest food, and the hidden hole in the walls that may be harder for the common tourist to find.

Where you'll be

We'll be walking around the Akihabara district. Tours will start at JR Akihabara station and then from there will drop into some anime and video game shops in the central area. These shops are more known by locals and less frequented by tourists. We will then grab ramen to eat or quick food from sidewalk stands before trying out some fun arcade games. Towards the end, we'll close with a visit to Kanda Shrine and make an offering for a great trip!
