Traditional Greek Cooking class & dinner

Athina, Greece

Experience hosted by Marilena

3 hours
Includes food, drinks
Up to 8 people
Hosted in English

What you'll do

At CookinAthens you will learn how to cook from scratch a Greek meal in an atmosphere that feels like home. The classes are totally hands-on and all the recipes will be given to you in writing in advance so you can take notes during the class.

Once we’ve all gotten to know each other, we will talk about the menu and the steps for every recipe we are going to cook. You will learn how to cook a 4- course dinner to resemble a common Greek dinner using the best local ingredients and following traditional family recipes, (sometimes with a twist) which we will all devour afterwards while talking, laughing and drinking good Greek wine.

To ensure all class participants learn the most important parts of the given menu, certain key techniques (such as making dough for pies from scratch) will be executed by all class participants.

By the end of the class our guests will be able to recreate the full menu when they get back home.

A sample menu includes a spanakopita (spinach pie) or cheesepie, a tzatziki (yogurt spread with garlic and dill), Greek salad (which we make our way), pastitsio (the Greek lasagna) or Moussaka (both made with a family recipe) or chicken in tomato sauce and handmade pasta) and for dessert Frigania from Zante (Rusk soaked in syrup, topped with pastry cream or ravani (semolina cake soaked in syrup). the dinner will be finished with traditional Greek spirits

My name is Marilena and I live in Athens my entire life. I am a passionate food lover and food blogger. I cook ever since I remember myself, so my first memories are in the kitchen cooking with my grandmother.
I love cooking so much that about five years ago I created my food blog, www.marislurp.com, which in 2016 was awarded the best sweet treats food blog award by Vima Gourmet magazine.
Recently I created CookinAthens, a cooking studio for dinners and cooking classes, designed to celebrate the art of cooking and make you love Greek food even more. During the cooking class you will not only taste authentic Greek food but you will also learn how to cook it perfectly so when you are back home you will be able to recreate the whole experience

We highly recommend Marilena's cooking class if you like an intimate and relaxed atmosphere! She was very communicative from the beginning and was happy to adapt the menu to our likes/dislikes. She also had great vegetarian alternatives for everything. We left feeling very full and with lots of leftovers for lunch the next day. She was a friendly and organised host.

No trip to Athens would be complete without a cooking class with Marilena at Cookin’ Athens. This class became the highlight of my Greece vacation. My friend and I were fortunate enough to have a private instruction, making several traditional Greek courses. Marilena first reached out about dietary restrictions and ingredient preferences, she tailored the menu thereafter. If you have something specific you would like to make, she will happily oblige. We did not have a preference; her choices were subsequently fantastic. The kitchen is beautiful and spectacularly clean, the equipment was very impressive. She was welcoming and knowledgeable. She used the best ingredients, sparing no expense for fresh produce, organic meats, etc. Our meal was absolutely delicious, hands down the best food I ate in Athens. I purchased as many of the ingredients as I could to take back to the States so I can try and recreate these recipes for friends and family. She even emailed us the next day with recommendations for other restaurants to visit when we traveled to Santorini and a list of groceries we might want to take back for gifts. Whether you’re an experienced home cook, or prefer to be the assistant, you will feel comfortable and encouraged in this relaxed atmosphere. Wish I could do this again. We had so much fun and really felt immersed in the culture of Athens. Would absolutely recommend booking!!!
