What you'll do

** Special $10 pricing for a limited time! ** We will meet at Daredevil Tattoo for a private tour of the museum collection that includes artwork and machines from some of the earliest and most influential tattooers over the last 100 years. We will then walk through the Lower East Side and Chinatown discussing the rich immigrant history of the area and the notorious slum and gangland it became. We will walk through Chatham Square and up the Bowery where the first electric tattoo machine was invented and where the old time Bowery tattooers worked until tattooing was banned in 1961. Afterwards there's plenty of places to pick from for a Chinatown dim sum lunch (not included in the tour, there's a vegan dim sum parlor around the corner too).

Learn more about Michelle

Michelle

I started tattooing in 1991 when tattooing was still illegal in NYC. When tattooing was legalized in 1997 I opened Daredevil with my business partner Brad Fink. I am passionate about the history of NYC's tattoo past which is connected to the history of our neighborhood here on the Lower East Side. I am the only tattooer in NYC who is also a licensed NYC tour guide.

About the organisation

Daredevil Tattoo

Daredevil Tattoo launched NYC Tattoo History inc. which is a registered 501(c)3 non profit. Our mission is to preserve and share tattoo history with an emphasis on the history of tattooing in NYC, centered around the collection of antique tattoo memorabilia on permanent display at Daredevil Tattoo.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to Daredevil Tattoo.

Where you'll be

We'll meet at Daredevil Tattoo which is a working tattoo shop that houses one of the most significant collections of tattoo memorabilia in the world. We will walk through the Lower East Side and Chinatown close to the notorious Five Points with an important Gangs of New York landmark along the way.
