What you'll do

You will arrive to the studio via taxi, bus transport, or on foot. It is in East Vancouver, also called Little Italy. You are close to some microbreweries here too!
- You will be offered coffee, tea and water (complimentary & inclusive).
- You will be introduced to my co-producer & studio engineer, Allan Rodger & led into the studio.
- You have a look around, choose a seat, be offered studio headphones.
- I'll introduce some music and Allan will explain the approach
- We start a song project from scratch
- You won’t sit behind glass, you will sit with ear phones right next to the drummer, or the bassist and the other professional musicians we bring into the session.
- After you witness the first tracks going down, Allan will explain where we 'go' from here and we will ask the guests for input, ideas or questions.
- Note: Photographs are welcomed but not while the live tracking is taking place, so the focus is on the vibe and the music
- It's surely fascinating, delightful and intense. After such an experience one is sure to feel music in a new way. There is time for questions, and direction from the guests are also considered.

*Normally studios don't have guests in the studio, due to the expense, the focus & intensity required to get it "right", and head-space of the artist. Amongst other things. And it's not a concert hall, it's a music recording studio.

I'm a touring world-class recording artist. I'm a singer & multi-instrumentalist, & worked in various studios in the US, Canada, Germany & Austria for over 20 yrs, and I've played 1000's of concerts in Europe & N.America. I've opened for Diana Krall, Bryan Adams, Faith Hill & have had hit songs on the radio. For the past 10 years, I’ve worked along Allan Rodger (a music engineer & producer & studio owner & multi-instrumentalist. airbnb URL: https://www.airbnb.ca/users/show/5021500. Website: www.allanrodger.com.) We're passionate about bringing in music lovers (airbnb guests) into a world-class studio environment in Vancouver, where you can hear and see all of the tracks to a song being laid down LIVE. (Vancouver: my home-town; where Sarah Mclachlan & Diana Krall & many more recorded) *If you're musical we'll include you in the process!

Very positive experience for my first ever recording studio visit. Melanie was very helpful at helping me edit a song I already wrote, and making suggestions for me to sing. She and the engineer were very open to me making changes or suggestions to their suggestions. Got a great little demo out of it that now I need to find somewhere to test out on an audience! Thanks so much!

I came in unsure of what to expect and Allan and Melanie really showed us how to create our own song! They took the basic idea or chords that we had taught us the right chord name, and played the bass, drums while my friend played the guitar and I hopped into the recording booth to record vocals! The song came out amazing. For the second session I went in for, I learned mixing due to Melanie's suggestion. Allan taught me how to mix my pre existing song with the right bus sends and reverb, delays while balancing the overall volume levels. I think beginner or already a practicing musician, it would be a great opporutnity for internationals or not to learn or collaborate while out here in Vancouver! I wish i saved the right track when I recorded vocals though, i ended up with the wrong lyrics in a verse since the time becomes a little rushed by the end, but still amazing experience for the price we are paying! Thankful to the both of them and this opportunity :)

“So. Much. Fun!!!” I gifted my sister and her family (husband, teenager and pre-teen) Melanie’s studio experience for Christmas. The immediate feedback was totally positive. They loved it! Thank you SO much Melanie for offering this personal and unique experience that lets the public feel/hear what it’s like to record music.

This is a fantastic experience for every level of musician. My son and friend (both 17 yo) really appreciated the customized approach, Allan's advice and insights on their playing, and especially the recording to tape -- so unique! They both commented about fun it was to hang out and learn from a professional and get a polished recording at the end of a couple hours. Thanks to both Melanie and Allan for the hospitality. Your friendly and hip vibe was appreciated! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I’d like to start by saying that I owe Melanie and Alan (her awesome studio engineer) an apology for reaching quite late and inspite of that they were extremely accommodating and warm. They made sure I was comfortable enough to the point where I could completely be myself! We recorded one of Melanie’s songs from scratch, I’ve never heard a song more intimately live than I did in this studio, Alan then picked up one instrument after the other and latter the track masterfully, this experience is for everyone and a 2 Hour masterclass for musicians! The warmth, the laughter, the lessons and the music you will taste here will stay with you forever!
