What you'll do

Hailed as "Food Heaven of Asia", we'll learn 2-dish that made Penang world's most iconic food destination - 1 of a hot wok hawker dish and 1 of a bite-sized street snack. After we pick you up, we'll arrive to our beautiful home with breathtaking bird eye view of Penang.

You will learn the soul of a hot wok hawker dish - seasoning sauce, the tasty secret you could use it for any Asian dishes. You will then stir-fry them on the traditional Chinese wok, which I will share my professional tips to get "wok hei" - the smell of the wok that contribute to the incredible aroma of hawker food. A quick dish like this is easy to remake back home and tasty too!

Another bite-sized Malaysian street snack - kuih or kueh requires patience and skills in the making, you will skillfully learn the tips and tricks to wrap them and spend some fun happy moments savouring the pastry!

I'm a professional chef with 10 years of experience in international hotel chains. I am from Mentakab, a little place near east coast of Malaysia. My passion for experimenting new flavours has brought me to Penang. I love many of Penang hawker food, and has mastered the skills into making em' throughout the years.

I live in Penang, together with my fiancee, Jacqueline who herself is a local Penangites. What's funny? I have ate Char Koay Teow daily for a streak of 2 weeks when I first arrived here, and still my favourite till now!

My high rise home has breathtaking 360 bird eye Penang view of cityscapes and beautiful coastlines. We'll spend a hour or two laid back at this quaint town just a mere 15 mins drive from the George Town city centre.

We were picked up by Sam himself and driven to his apartment which gave us a fantastic view of Penang - that alone was worth the money. On arrival we were met by Jacqueline who welcomed us like old friends and prepared a cooling drink. Sam knows his trade and this comes across with both knowledge and passion for what he is teaching. The set-up in the apartment is first class with a work space and area to prepare the dishes under Sam's guidance. Each of the ingredients were explained as well as their role in the dishes we were preparing to cook (Char Kway Teow and Kuih Koci ) A really pleasant way to spend a few hours in the afternoon and then get to eat what you have cooked -

Very knowledgeable chef, that is truly passionate about his cuisine. Him and his girlfriend create an honest experience that will "spice" up your time in Penang. If you're into cooking, or even experiencing Malaysian culture, they are the people to give you that. And don't hesitate to ask them about places to eat or things to do in Penang, they are big foodies.

Cooking class by Samuel was a blissful experience not only for my palate but also for my heart. I felt truly welcomed by Samuel and his partner who both work hard to create a one-and-only experience for each and every guest. Samuel is an experienced young chef with lots of insight into local cuisine, and he gave me lots of tips about the Penang cuisine scene. A breathtaking view from his apartment is a plus and I was lucky to be there on a very sunny day!
