What you'll do
Sketching a place helps you look at it with fresh eyes and make it your own. It's a truly personal way of discovering, recording and sharing what you see on your travels, or even the places most familiar to you! By Cheonggyecheon stream, beneath the skyscrapers of central Seoul, I'll introduce dynamic urban sketching techniques: dramatic perspective, strong light & dark contrasts, water reflections and drawing with motion using hand sharpened professional graphite leads. All levels are welcome. I will give you your own travel sketch booklet and as you draw, I'll encourage you to look at your surroundings, find what speaks to you and transcribe this onto the paper as I share tricks to quickly and effectively illustrate distinctive features of the cityscape. We'll then make our way to a beautiful hidden antique cafe where, using different graphic tools, we'll turn our sketches into more refined postcard illustrations that reflect your own experience and observations.

I am an English-French artist and host living in Seoul, featured in the Korea Times and Marie Claire Korea. My drawing style aims for motion and simplicity: to vividly describe in few strokes things I find beautiful or distinctive in my surroundings. Before moving to Seoul, I lived and practiced in France, Britain, Italy and Spain, where I recorded experiences and impressions in daily sketch-diaries - a practice which continues to feed my work today. I learned then that drawing is for everyone, and that it can be a powerful tool to explore the world outside and inside oneself.

Where you'll be
We'll be sketching in Cheonggyecheon river park, a favourite spot for local families and a calm retreat right in the middle of the bustling city centre. An ideal place for outdoor sketching, where the outlook from below street level provides an original view of the city. We'll then move to a hidden antique cafe nearby: a soothing, comfortable place for more precise illustration work.
