What you'll do
The tour begins and ends outside the Fringe Office on the Royal Mile. Graeme E. Pearson will meet you there. He's the tall guy with the tartan troosers and Balmoral hat. Everything is in and around The Royal Mile in Edinburgh's Old Town. We will walk in a loop up towards Edinburgh Castle and return back in at least 1 hour 15 minutes but sometimes longer. The first stop is at Advocate's Close with the view of The Scott Monument and some background on The Old Town of Edinburgh and The New Town with a song by Sir Walter Scott. Then across the road to The Heart of Midlothian and the Porteous Riots. The statue of David Hume is next and then up to Makars Court and a poem and a song by Robert Burns. At this point we have the option of stopping off at the pub for a quick one, after 8 pm under 18s are not allowed in pubs in Scotland. Then up to Semple's Close and down around to Johnstone Terrace where we briefly go over the geology of Edinburgh. We then talk about the murderers Burke and Hare and follow on with another notorious rouge of Edinburgh, Deacon Brodie. We finish behind St. Giles Cathedral and a song in a Close near there. All of these events are punctuated by songs and entertainment.
The Musical Walking Tour of Edinburgh is a unique activity. Graeme E. Pearson is a native of Edinburgh and has been doing the tour for over 10 years. He has been playing and singing in the pubs of Edinburgh since 1991. Walk with him as he tells you stories of Edinburgh and Scottish history with songs. This tour is relaxed, informal and family friendly. Depending on the time of day and the age of the guests we can stop off at a pub or two. There is no other tour like this in Edinburgh or the world. It lasts at least 1 hour and a quarter but can be flexible, depending on the needs of the guests.
