What you'll do

This is an opportunity to get up close and personal with a young but diverse food forest.

The first trees were planted in 2013 so it's far from mature but it's already easy to see many of the symbiotic relationships in action. There are over three hundred edible perennial varieties already growing including forty varieties of fruit & nut trees, dozens of unusual shrubs, berry bushes and medicinal plants, plus seventy kinds of perennial vegetable.

Learn about self-sustaining ecosystems, companion planting and perennial vegetables whilst asking as many questions as you like and tasting some produce along the way.

There'll be a chance to learn more about sustainable bee-keeping with a look at an observation hive for those who wish to.

The tour will be tailored to suit you, depending upon your or your group's existing knowledge or interests. And we can talk about how to apply some forest garden principles to your own plot, if you have one.

Other things to note:
I usually only add availability for about two months in advance. So if you're looking to book further ahead than that then either send me a message to request a date or keep an eye on the calendar, as more dates will appear every month.
I'm open to hosting experiences throughout the winter months, if requested, but the garden is at its best from April to October.

I became a professional gardener in 2011 and since starting my own forest garden project in 2013 have dedicated myself to learning as much about agroforestry as possible.

I've been giving talks & lectures to the schools and gardening clubs of Somerset on all things permaculture since 2014, with subjects ranging from 'perennial vegetables for the smaller garden' to 'the benefits of balanced bee-keeping'.

I am truly passionate about working with nature, as opposed to against it, which is something that becomes evident to those who come to experience the project.

In 2017 I began running tours around my plot, due to popular demand, as well as creating a YouTube channel: "Rob's Discovery"
In which I document the forest garden project.

And in September 2019 I was fortunate enough to be featured in an episode of the BBC's Gardeners' World.

Rob's knowledge on forest garden is amazing. He is very kind and willing to share his knowledge happily. He generously shared many samples from his garden for us to try planting in our gardens, sensing our avid interest. Also, he continued the tour for longer than the advertised time as we had many questions. We will be definitely coming back with some more of our friends. Thank you Rob for a wonderful time. You give us hope that in this world, one doesn't have to be consumeristic to thrive.

Highly recommend visiting Rob for his forest garden experience. Rob's communication was clear on the lead up to the visit, making the meet as easy as possible. The actual tour was superb! Rob is very passionate and has a knack of explaining things in a way that makes sense, he is also extremely knowledgeable through his years of experimentation; so regardless of your prior knowledge you will definitely get a lot out of it.

I have just spent 2+ hours immersed in Rob’s knowledge and passion for his amazing forest garden. Curious to see plants, shrubs and trees from all over the world, which yield their flavours and scents. And bees. And geese. And ducks. And to see how Rob lives a unique lifestyle off his land. Now have serious land envy. A wonderful experience.

This was a remarkable experience because it echoed and responded to a range of issues such as sustainability, ecological balance and biodiversity that are becoming increasingly important to all of us. What made the presentation so compelling and memorable was that, completely unexpectedly, we had met a man who, starting from a level of knowledge and understanding that sounded as though they were not much greater than our own, had addressed and found his way through these issues. Rob is a well-informed (and, happily, not academic) guide who is passionate about the subject of forest gardens. We had an absorbing and fascinating two hours with him and left feeling uplifted and inspired. I thoroughly recommend this experience which may just change the way you look and life.

Such a wonderful, informative experience. I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in gardening, nature, permaculture, sustainability, ecosystems, looking after animals or the connection between us and nature. Rob was a brilliant tour guide with a vast knowledge on a lot of subjects, he answered all my questions and I went home with a real sense of wanting to put what I had learnt into practice. All of this for a small price, set in a beautiful location. Brilliant 👍
