What you'll do

Our experience will begin at the famous market Central de Abastos located just outside of Oaxaca's city and get ready to experience the traditional way of collecting all the items needed for our ofrenda. After that, you will be taken to the house of a Oaxacan family and you will get to help decorate the house, prepare and celebrate the ofrenda. You will be served traditional food such as tamales, mole and of course mezcal. Once you have been able to enjoy the special Oaxacan dishes, you will be taken downtown. In celebration of the holiday, at around 5 p.m. you will have the opportunity to have your face painted in true Oaxacan tradition by a talented professional make-up artist (included). After that, we'll go to a "fiesta de Día de muertos" It will take place at Convivio, a co-working space by day and bar by night. My close friends Gary and Ian, the owners of Convivio, will organize this special event at night (reduced prices for you of course) Between 10:30-11:30 p.m. we'll go to the Xoxocotlán cemetery, one of the best places in Oaxaca to experience Día de muertos. There will be live traditional Oaxacan Mariachi music, many locals sharing festive dinners alongside their deceased family members' graves and a food and souveniers market. Feel free to explore the cemetery as you like and meet more outgoing, sociable locals.

More tips

We will go to one of the biggest and croweded market in the city so you need to be careful with you phone and don't bring jewelry or expensive personal things. I'll bring money to pay everything we will need for our muertos altar so bring some money if you want to buy extra things for you (less than $400 MXN).
