Join this fun calligraphy artwork shop, enjoy making your original art piece using Japanese classic book.
From beginner to a skillful person. Family, children are welcome.

Japan has rich writing culture, printed book is still popular and there are many of second hand book shops. I am book lover, I’ve been seeing interesting books at the shops and started combine books and calligraphy.
Book’s photography, editorial design giving us inspiration to arrange calligraphy. It would be unique art work comparing traditional calligraphy which write on white paper.
I’ll guide you to second book store, teach you how to calligraphy, support you make your own art works.

1. Meet at Nakameguro station where 2 stops from Shibuya station.
2. Take a walk on local shopping street, If you will find good photo location.
3. Stop by classic second hand book store, purchase your favorite book ( Price from ¥200 )
4. Go to the venue, start calligraphy.
I'll demonstrate how to calligraphy, giving you lesson one by one.
Once you are ready, let’s painting calligraphy on your favorite book pages.
Example :
- Write your vacation memory on map page.
- Write food Kanji on seasonal food photo page.

It’s nice idea to translate your name to Japanese Kanji character. Ask me which Kanji is good to you. Each Japanese Kanji has meaning so I will choose best one for you.
Other things to note
-If you'd like to use your own supplies to make art pieces, please feel free to bring it. Enjoy your original creation.
- If your children will join workshop, may good to bring their aprons.
- Request translating your alphabet name to Japanese Kanji character is welcome.

Where you'll be

We will meet at Nakameguro station, take a walk on local shopping street, go to Japanese classic second book store. I think the book store will be unique experience for you. After you purchase your book, we will walk to a venue, start calligraphy lesson, making art.
Room has balcony, it's good to be relax.
Nakameguro has many of cozy cafe, restaurant and clothing stores. It's nice to take a look neighborhood before / after workshop

It was a wonderful workshop that was inspired by imagination. I Cut out photos and books, and write Japanese words such as KANJI and HIRAGANA, and your favorite words and pictures. It was fun with kind instruction from Hitomi. It may be a good idea to bring your own favorite photos in advance. .

I really enjoyed the workshop. Hitomi was really helpful, she taught me basic techniques of Japanese calligraphy, she is an expert! If you want to enjoy Japanese artistic culture, this is definitely best one. It’s fun to paint calligraphy on Ukiyo-e images. I made a gift pieces for my parents.

I had a wonderful time with Hitomi, she is a great instructor. The explanations were clear and understandable. We quickly got a tip of calligraphy. Calligraphy on Ukiyo-e was my first experience and Hitomi helped us to enjoy it completely. The classic book store was unique and fun. I recommend you this experience.

Cancellation policy

Any experience can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase, or at least 7 days before the experience starts.

Government ID

You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.

Guest requirements

Up to 4 guests ages 8 and up can attend. Parents may also bring children under 2 years of age.
