What you'll do

We will visit 3 best noodle spots of this flea market and devour them. You will feel like you are transported back to 1960s Seoul. This market attracts everything 2nd hand and if you are a big fan of anything vintage, you will love this place.

We will eat 3 gook-soo (noodle in Korean)
- Mak-gook-soo (North-ern Korean style buckwheat noodle) : cold noodle tossed in sweet, sour, spicy sauce popular in the northern part of Korean peninsula.
- Jan-chi-gook-soo (Party noodle) : Hearty noodle soup in clean seafood broth. Used to be served during traditional weddings and parties.
- JJa-jang-myeong (Black bean noodle) : Salty and slightly sweet black bean paste based noodle served in Korean-Chinese restaurants. Originally from China but it has completely transformed to suit the local palate. Every Korean's favorite noodle.

You will see a vast and chaotic cluster of everything 2nd hand sold in every corner of a street. Some items look like they are straight out of 1960's or even older. If you are good at bargaining, you might make your purchase just at 1 dollar.

I assure you will never see anything like this place in Seoul and you will thoroughly enjoy this timeless part of Seoul along with my delicious noodle picks.

If you don't speak english, don't worry! I don't speak english well. So, I prepared introduce hand-out notes. Feel free to contact me!
Thanks!

I frequented this real, 1 of a kind flea market when I was studing for my degree in theater and film 20 years ago. Hwang-hak-dong flea market has everything 2nd hand and I came here day and night to scavenge my theater costumes. Also, my hobby is to collect old vintage musical films and songs and I always came here after school to go through countless vintage albums. This nostalgic market is where my youth was spent and I am glad to see it has not changed much since then.

Where you'll be

Hwang-hak-dong flea market started its history after Korean war in 1950's. People here have been selling everything 2nd hand from everywhere in Korea. If you like to scavenge vintage items, there is no better place than this true flea market. Since I came here all the time to find my theater costumes and vintage albums, I know this chaotic market like the back of my hand and of course including where to get the best noodles.

This is a great tour to get some basic understanding of Korean food and the Dong-myo markets. This is a great tour for solo traveler and I would recommend for first-timer in Korea.
