What you'll do

We'll meet at a scheduled time in the center of Waikiki in Duke's Marketplace. This is where we'll practice techniques on a surfboard prior to paddling out into the waves. We'll also go over safety instructions, keeping you and others safe.

After the land demonstration, it's only a 5 minute walk to the beach with the boards. I have lockers to keep your things while we're surfing. Once we get to the beach, we will paddle out to one of three places depending upon conditions. I'll push you into waves, taking the guessing out so you can practice your stance. Once you get the hang of it, I can continue to push you into the surf saving your energy, or you can attempt to catch your own waves.

After at least 1 hour in the water surfing, you'll have the option of staying out in the surf on your own. When you're finished, I'll meet you back on the beach to pick up your surfboard.

The hardest part of surfing is paddling after the wave is over. The only way you'll breeze through it is if you swim on a regular basis (most only swim on vacation). What's not so easy to find is an instructor who will help you paddle so you can save your energy, and teach you on how to catch your own waves.

Aloha, I've been teaching surfing on Waikiki Beach for over 20 years. I'm blue-card certified by The Dept. of Land & Natural Resources / State of Hawaii, and Red Cross Lifeguard Certified for First-Aid & CPR.
I'm fortunate with the opportunity to have learned from original Waikiki Beachboys on the beach since the 1960's. I was trained from some of the best!
Prior to only offering surf lessons, I used to host vacation rentals through Airbnb and have over 80 positive reviews as a host.
Every job has it perks, especially if it involves an activity like surfing. Who wouldn't want to catch waves at work? If you don't surf, I don't surf, so yes, I might have an alternative reason to take you surfing.

Where you'll be

We'll meet in Duke's Marketplace, one of the last open-air markets in Waikiki tucked away in the middle of the block (Map Pacific Soul Surfing).

We'll be surfing surrounded with iconic landmarks like the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Diamond Head, and the Moana Surfrider Hotel. While Waikiki Beach is no secret, the view from the waves is only experienced by a few who visit Hawaii. I highly recommend to seek a view from the ocean any chance you get.

It was really good to learn from Vin how to surf, it wasn’t jut an experience of surfing but I felt it was really lesson, not only catch waves with his push but he taught much about board and surfing. たぶん日本語も少しできると思います。 ビーチのパラソルのところとかのレッスン受けるなら、断然こちらオススメします!!クオリティが違います

Vin does a great job teaching you and helping you be successful at surfing. I was up on my second try and surfed several waves. He is very knowledgeable and friendly.

Vin is a great teacher. Almost surfed on my first wave....He kept giving me suggestions throughout to improve and helped me paddle when I needed to rest. Would definitely recommend him for solo travellers. Remember to hydrate enough before the lesson.

Vin was a very good teacher. I had no experience and was able to get up on the board and really enjoy surfing. I would highly recommend!

Vin’s surf lesson was the highlight of our trip to Honolulu. Don’t book your hotel surf lessons – we saw those groups and they were not even close to comparable to the level of instruction and value of Vin’s lessons. My best friend and I were inexperienced first-time surfers, and we were so nervous to try something new in our late 30s. Vin was super instructing, patient, and motivational – and such a respectful, professional guy! I seriously still cannot believe how much fun we had, and am so impressed with the fact that we actually surfed! You will be addicted after one lesson!
