What you'll do

What is Hokkori? Hokkori means feeling cozy, relaxed, and warmed in the cockles of your heart. For this experience, I will take you to see the old and nostalgic side of Tokyo, with hidden gems, cafes, canteens, and eateries that only the locals know about. We'll take the Tokyu Setagaya Line, a cute little tramway that runs through this unexplored neighborhood in Tokyo. The Setagaya Line opened in 1925 and it only has two cars, but it still has that relaxed air and retro feel—and all the areas along the tram line evoke that same feeling. I'll take you to all the secret spots that I've been visiting since I was a kid. We'll stop by my favorite shop and temple, and we'll also have a bite of some local snacks. You will feel the friendly atmosphere of good old Tokyo. At the end of my experience, you'll feel and understand the true meaning of Hokkori:)

This tour is not just about food, but also about the culture of Tokyo and how the locals live.

I'm a food blogger, writer, and social media user, and I have a passion for finding delicious desserts. People call me the "sweets hunter," and I've eaten a total of more than 5000 sweets over the past 10 years, all over the world. I am from southeast Tokyo and know the area well. We have so many delicious desserts in the city, and I'd like to show the world these amazing treats, as well as street food.

Where you'll be

We'll meet at Sangen-Jaya Station and take the Setagaya Line. We'll stroll through an old neighborhood, well known for its cute cafés and good boulangeries. We'll go to my favorite shop and the temple, and throughout the experience, we'll eat local sweets and street foods, see stunning views, and more. I'm a food blogger and know how to find delicious food—especially sweets.

The whole tour was a nice experience. Going by a local tram, walking around a cute shopping streets with a lot of small sweet shops, cafes, eateries and speciality shops, talking with Kt-san about local curiosities and Japanese life and culture. A recommended host and tour.

La journée avec KT était vraiment chouette ! Je recommande vraiment afin de découvrir un quartier calme, pleins d'endroits magiques et de Maneki Neko !

I've been in Tokyo for two weeks so far, yet this tour was definitely one of the best things I have done. Most of the typical tourist areas are in central Tokyo, so it was fantastic to get to know this area. Kt is from the area and it really shows. We stopped at lots of local places that tourists just seem to not know about. I really recommend this experience, it's also a great value (the food is much cheaper out there than compared to an area like Ueno)

This was a great experience! A great way to see how Japanese people spend new year holiday season. Also we have tried so many Japanese traditional food! We learned not only about food but also Japanese culture. Kt was very accommodating and very kind. She was even a great help in showing us places to visit around Tokyo. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tokyo.

KT made us feel welcome and engaged each of us in the tour. She took us to an amazing bakery we never would have found in our own and stopped at several stores along the way. She explained many different styles of food in the area where we were in and also took us to a very pretty and peaceful temple. It was a very picturesque place. It was great to hear about her customers and background. We were there over the New Year holiday, so unfortunately a few of the places she wanted to take us were closed (my family was expecting that could potentially happen going into the tour). KT adjusted and we still had a great time. It was very enjoyable and KT went out of her way to help us with requests and questions. I would love to take another one of her tours in a different area.

Unfortunately we were not able to try any unique foods. We attended this event on New Years Day so the majority of business were closed. We assumed that the event was running because the organizer had researched to make sure places would be open. We went from place to place hearing about great food that would be available...when the stores were back open. It was quite frustrating.
