What you'll do

Explore nature and enjoy drinks at an Old English Pub

We'll meet in the parking lot of a traditional English country pub in Stodmarsh.

Morning and early afternoon activities will emphasize simple bushcraft skills. You will gain practical hands-on experience by lighting a fire, carving basic camp tools, creating a basic shelter, and preparing and cooking a one-pot meal over an open fire.

Afternoon activities will comprise walking through Stodmarsh Nature Reserve, where you may spot bearded reedlings, bitterns, marsh harriers, sandpipers, grebes, kingfishers, and rare garganey ducks, along with water voles, weasels, and otters.

The day will end at approximately 5 PM back at the pub, where you will have the opportunity to sample the ales.

Really unique. It’s an authentic experience so expect to get fully involved with learning Bushcraft skills. Lunch was a definite highlight - a delicious meal from locally sourced produce cooked on an open fire. Laurence’s expertise and enthusiasm really makes this - he is very patient and works so hard to make sure you get the most out it. His passion for what he does will ensure you have a great day!

What a brilliant day. Laurence was a wonderful host and a wonderful teacher. He went out of his way to pick us up from and drop us back at the station, and had thought through every part of the day to make it as enjoyable and as interesting as possible. So much hands-on experience, including learning how to start a fire, make tools, build shelter and cook our lunch (some lovely trout kindly sourced by Laurence as one of us didn’t eat meat). Would definitely recommend this, and definitely now considering doing longer courses!

I was to the experience because I didn’t know my way around and even missed my stop. Laurence went out of his way and picked me up at the next stop. Since I was the only one in the experience, I had a one to one exp. He was very encouraging and made sure I learned each skill properly. I had so much fun and I learned so much from him today and he didn’t mind me asking a lot of questions. It was awesome and I would love to do the two day experience the next time I visit London again, thank you! Ps.-the lunch was delicious too :,)

We had so much fun! We learnt lots of skills, and even though the weather was a little variable we still had a great time.

Had a pint down the road from the marsh afterwards in a really old traditional pub. Nice group, lots of fun. A bit cold, but no one was put off. Wellies and warm clothes recommended.

No let downs here. Learned to identify common plants, how to make a fire and cook great food outdoors, all transferable skills to show off in the garden or on a picnic. Great hosting, sympathetic dealing with the couple of us that didn’t pick a few points up first time, came away feeling when Hard Sun arrives I will be able to be one of the survivors ;-) Well done Laurence.
