What you'll do

I am going to take for a tour focused on Contemporary Art in the area Kreuzberg near by Kottbussor Tor. Together we will visit various commercial galleries and art house. The aim of the tour is give a peek into the art scene of Berlin.

Each of the chosen galleries has a unique atmosphere and is located in hidden places off the beaten track in semi private locations. Two of them are fully commercial galleries focused on profit making activities and the third one is less commercial and more friends friendly gallery. Nevertheless all three galleries allow us to gain a valuable insight in how the professional art world functions. The art house offers studio visits of particular artists in residency, so, we will have a rare opportunity to see the artists while they work and interact with them.

Overall the tour is focused on an introduction of the art world in Berlin because Berlin is considered as the art hub of today. Countless artists come over here hopping to make breakthrough and I will show you how does the contemporary art scene actually looks like from a close range

I am a curator born in the Czech Republic but I gained my Fine Art degree in the United Kingdom. For years I have lived in Berlin. Drawing inspiration from two readings of W. Benjamin and M. Foucault my curatorial practice questions the past and present in order to challenge the true image of history. Benjamin´s idea of authenticity of the artwork and reproduction of the artwork as liberation and reactivation is very captivating for me.

The other influential reading was from Michael Foucault who speaks about tradition as a tool allowing us to pursuit the endless search for origin. Foucault insists on leaving this tool behind and urges us to open our mind for a new fresh experience being free of the old tradition.

It was a great experience understanding about the exhibitions and seeing inside the artist's residence. I just would have liked to see all the galleries that the post said but maybe it took me so long one gallery that we couldn't see them all. But in general its really cool and exciting :)

Veronika was so kind that she has rescheduled her the art tour on Saturday as I did not feel well on Thursday. At first we went to a white cube gallery space of non profit organization where I could see artworks by Icelandic artist Anna Run Tryggvadottir, South African artist Talya Lubinsky and many others well established artists. Then we went to a lot smaller private gallery and there where artworks by emerging artists and then we went to art house specialized in artists in residency. Together we explored the artist´s studios of Japanese artist Manami from Fukushima, Jiyeon Kim from South Korea and Emi from Uruguay. It was truly exciting to talk with the local artists in their studios. Thank you all for a wonderful experience
