Artist's studio visit and lesson

Brussels, Belgium

Experience hosted by Yana

  1. 2 hours
  2. Hosted in English, French and Russian

What you'll do

First, I will introduce you to my world, my paintings, graphic novels and more. I will show you some of the materials I use (a mixture of traditional and less so, such as crushed autumn leaves, sweet wrappers, Sahara sand etc.) and talk about my creative process.

You will then have a go yourself and play with a few different materials. Don't worry if you've never done an art class in your life, I will offer you advice and help you along the way. You will leave with a unique insight into an artist's world and work, a hands-on experience of what goes into making an artwork, and a creation of your own.
Other things to note
The atelier is located on the third floor without an elevator. I also have a cat who will certainly come out to greet you so if you have cat allergies, this is something to bare in mind.

I'm a self-taught artist whose work is in the collections of the Museum of Spontaneous Art in Brussels and the Russian Cultural Centre of Belgium, among others. I'm a member of National Cartoonists Society and an associate member at the NYC Society of Illustrators. I also teach art to children and adults. I love to show people that they can express themselves, create their dreams without the need for years of professional training. I also enjoy giving people an opportunity to gain an insight into an artist's life and creative process.

Where you'll be

You will visit my cozy and informal atelier which is located in the University Quarter of Brussels, recently named "the second coolest European quarter" by the Guardian newspaper. It's off the beaten track and away from the tourist trails, with great public transport links, plenty of exciting restaurants and bars and is a great way to see a slice of authentic colourful Brussels life.

We had a blast with Yana. Her charming warm personality put us at ease right away. As an artist she helped me get past a block I've been dealing with with my watercolours, sparked some new ideas and as my friend had never done art she helped him get past his shyness. The conversation was great and the touches she put into it, like having a wide assortment of materials and a beautiful bottle of wine, were excellent. I'd recommend for people of all skill level.

Yana is a very knowledgeable and passionate artist. She would make you feel at ease from the start and help you explore the hidden artist inside of you. Don't hesitate to meet her! #unconventional :)

I had so much fun hanging out with Yana, and was able to create some awesome pieces of art. She was such a great host and was very encouraging and helpful during this creative experience. Would highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting to take a break from the city for a few hours, or to anyone who enjoys exploring different styles of art in a more personal setting.
