What you'll do

The Story:
My Vegan PopUp Brunch is inspired by the Natural Foods Diet practiced by the original Rastafarians of Jamaica.
Clean Eating was considered a sacred duty, Vital ( Ital in Rastafaian) to a healthy life and the Communal Organic Garden was a main feature of Rasta Culture.
Herbs in all forms are celebrated as gifts from the earth and are used Medicinally, Ceremonially as well as flavor enhancer for food in place of salt and other additives.
Meat and processed foods are avoided and although some fish are allowed they cannot be more than twelve inches in length!!

To honor this healthy tradition, your Humble Host will roam SoFlo's farmers markets and green grocers to gather the freshest fruits, vegetables and produce. Herbs from my garden complete our fresh market basket.

After a fun filled Saturday night...Sunday morning you wake
up with a post party appetite!
You don't need food that just fills you up, you deserve a home cooked meal that feeds and nourishes... This brunch is for you!

a) 11:00 AM we gather at my place.
b) Welcome and introductions
c) Each guest select one or two items from our market basket which they will prep. for cooking or juicing or salad to create our healthy grazing table.
We'll eat together under my comfy backyard pergola.

Hello!
I am Lela aka AfrochefLela.
Passionate food lover, chef,
gardener, purveyer of positive vibes and the Happy Host of Island Cooking with AfroChefLela on Airbnb!
My love for cooking started when I was very young watching my mother create delicious meals with all homegrown ingredients. By age twelve I was cooking for the family and making my own jams and jellies from fruits and wild berries which grew in abundance around our rural home.
In primary school I would volunteer to help in the cafeteria and in high school cookery class was my favorite!
I completed several courses in foodservice management and
was a restarant owner/manager in Jamaica for several years before emigrating to to the US.

Beautiful experience. Very nice host, very good food ! Lela make you feel home, she is so sweet! She told us about the culture in Jamaica. Then we ate all together on her beautiful backyard, I totally felt like I was in Jamaica! We had some raeggae and Brazilian music. The food was so delicious I’m still thinking about it :-) I totally recommend!

This was a great experience! Lela was SO nice, funny and educational. She allowed me to be hands on with her in the kitchen. I learned a lot about the food some culture. Her garden, which she did by herself if beautiful and very impressive! Great food and conversation.

We lucked up and got the change to have a private brunch with Miss Lela. Amazing food, stories and overall good vibes. I can’t wait to utilize some of what she taught me at home !

Let me start off by saying that my wife and I are not Vegetarian, but me personally I will try almostanything related to food. Ms. Lela was amazing, from the time we stepped into her home up until it was time for us to depart. the Brunch we had was 100% fresh, delicious. I know most are nervous about doing things as such these days especially due to COVID-19. All guest wore face mask, Including Ms. Lela even when preparing our food. Watching her prepare our meal for us was fun, but the BEST part over all was the delicious feast we had at the end. Make sure that you take pictures in her beautiful garden as well. it is absolutely Beautiful.
