What you'll do

Update: We are OPEN and SAFE.

La Jolla Bay is a Marine Protected Area that is home to a thriving ecosystem that boasts a high concentration of sea life, has a natural boat launch, which allows safe ocean entry year round, and is famous for its Sea Caves and Marine Reserve.

No experience is required. Great for all skill levels. Your guide will kick things off with a paddle tutorial on the beach. If surf exists we will help push your kayak through any breakers.

As we paddle through La Jolla’s Marine Reserve keep an eye out for Seals, Sea Lions, Sea Turtles, Pelicans, Dolphin and Gray whales in the fall/winter. Note: We cannot guarantee sea life.

If conditions are safe we will help guide your kayak into Emerald Cave. If it's not safe to enter Emerald Cave we will still paddle out & explore La Jolla's World Famous Marine Reserve. Note: if not safe we will not enter Emerald Cave, we don't cancel if the cave isn't safe and spend about a minute inside.

La Jolla Bay is an Uncontrollable Environment. Please come enjoy this place we love knowing each day is different than the last.

La Jolla is a popular place to swim, surf, snorkel, kayak and SUP. Every day endless stoked people share this special place.

Satisfaction Guarantee. Do not feel this was a 5 star trip, message me.

I have loved being on the water my entire life and with great friends, we started Everyday California, an adventure and apparel company, in 2010. Our GUIDES are experts on the water and will make sure you have a memorable experience!

I am permitted by the City of San Diego and SD's Lifeguard Services to operate a kayak concession in La Jolla.

Where you'll be

We'll meet at Everyday California, 2261 Avenida de la Playa in La Jolla, CA 92037. Please arrive 30 minutes before your tour time. Our shop has lockers & wetsuits, for all sizes, & 5 fitting rooms. Once geared up it's a quick walk to the beach. There is a 12% City Tax, which helps SD hire more lifeguards. Note: If not safe, we won’t kayak into Emerald Cave, and we dont know typically till we kayak over an inspect the caves. If it’s safe we enter.

We had a great time! It was my first time and I was expecting to be a lot harder. But nice weather, calm waters and very good guidance from the crew made it a great experience for us.

Our group of 6 had a lot of fun, including 3 of the 4 kids (8, 11, 14) who had not done any kayaking before. Our tour hosts Steven and Abby were very helpful and knowledgeable throughout the entire experience. They gave us a quick kayaking tutorial on the beach before we entered the water, which was great although it felt a little rushed. We took small breaks to assemble the group and rest, while the hosts gave us additional info on the sea life below us, as well as the sights around us, such as the houses on the hills. and the caves. When we reached Emerald cave, they took us in 2 boats at a time. It was really cool to paddle inside the cave; I wish we could have stayed a little longer. Overall, I definitely recommend this company for kayaking experiences. Note that their store is not located right on the beach and that you’ll still need to walk 5-10 min after being geared up; so give yourself a lot of extra time before your trip start time, in addition to finding parking. There are also a couple of additional kayaking places in the same area, some even closer to the beach, so it might be worthwhile to do some comparison shopping.

My partner Zac and I LOVED this experience. The team from start to finish were very personable and kind. Check in was a breeze, and I was happy to see that they had floating phone covers! When you enter the store there are people right there to help you fill out a waiver before renting lockers, wetsuits, etc. This is a tightly run ship and everything runs smoothly! We rented wetsuits---I recommend checking water temps as wetsuits make it SO easy to swim around carefree if chilly. Our group was small, and Trent our tour guide was so knowledgeable and we really enjoyed learning about the cove. Seriously, very cool guy...very cool staff 100/10 recommend. I have family in la Jolla and next time I will definitely be renting gear from here for the beach or doing any other excursion with them!

We had a great time. Our guide, Trent, was excellent. While on the kayaks, he told us interesting local info. and looked out for everyone’s safety. We loved Emerald Cave! We’ll be back!
