What you'll do

Paris in the Second World war : the dark side of its most famous monuments.

Discover life under Nazi occupation, the fate(s) of the city's Jewish community and the story of the liberation of Paris, a city divided between the resistance and the collaborationists, on the brink of a civil war. From the poorest areas of the city to the wealthiest and from the hidden to the most famous monuments, you will discover both sides of a city at war.

Our "coffee and stroll" will last about 3 hours. The aim of my walk is to make you discover specific areas of Paris in the light of aspects of our city's rich history that are rarely touched upon by guidebooks, with in-depth information (history buffs welcome) but in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. A conversation, rather than a lecture!

A native Parisian, I returned to my gorgeous home town after studying history in the UK (PhD). I became a higher education teacher, tour guide and translator and I am in expert in the social history of Paris, from antiquity until now! I absolutely love introducing people to areas and aspects of Paris which are usually not on the tourist map. I make sure everyone goes away having seen something they did not expect, tasted something the had never heard about or learned something they will not forget, and of course, having spent a pleasant, informal and joyful time!

Where you'll be

Our itinerary will include both little known and very famous areas of Paris, whose darker sides you will discover. No museum or monument visits but we'll walk past plenty of famous landmarks and discover hidden gems too. We'll meet in the Marais, the heart of the Parisian Jewish Community, then off to the Arc de Triomphe for a spot of military history, the Trocadero, a disputed space between Nazis and the resistance and the Eiffel Tower!
