What you'll do

Experience the delightful alpine glow, a mood of light at sunset with dramatically illuminated mountain peaks. When the sun is low, the long path through the earth's atmosphere causes a large proportion of the blue light to be scattered in other directions. The remaining sunlight colours the surrounding mountains scenic orange to red.

This experience is aimed at beginners. Before departure, personal equipment, especially clothing and footwear, is checked. The journey from Vienna along the first mountains to the starting point takes 1.5 hours. There will be an introduction on site, and the necessary material (snow plates or snow chains / "Grödel" in winter) will be explained, distributed and be putted on. Snow is expected in the winter months (December, January, February) from an altitude of 800 meters.

The ascent takes between 60 and 90 minutes and leads through a forest and over alpine meadows. After 400 meters in altitude and 5 kilometres we reach the 1782 meter high summit and hopefully enjoy a spectacular sunset. If the mountain hut at the summit is open, we will eat there. We descend the 400 meters for 60 to 90 minutes on a flat path and drive back to Vienna.
