What you'll do

This is a tour for everyone, but especially designed for families, with a spotting list for younger children. I offer a unique 75 minute chronological trip through Oxford's colourful history, from the Saxon origins of the town to the present day. If children are on board I'll admit that I am a time traveller! We will see some of Oxford's best-known landmarks and hear about the people and events that made the city and the university world-famous - as well as some of the scrapes I got into when visiting them!

Other things to note
Travel around Oxford can get a bit congested so please don't hesitate to text or call me if you have any problems and I will do my best to adapt when possible. There are cobbled streets on the tour.

I am an experienced guide, having toured the streets of Oxford for seven years now. I’ve lived in Oxford for the best part of 25 years and studied at Oxford Brookes University, so I have seen plenty of recent Oxford history first-hand! I am also a trained teacher (CELTA and PGCE) and have two children of my own. I have also been a time traveller for the last 1200 years but try to keep quiet about that!

Where you'll be

Morning tours visit the beautiful Christchurch meadow, where England's first hot air balloon flight took off in 1784 (I had to buy a ticket to watch it!) Afternoon tours have a choice of Christchurch meadow or a nosey into Exeter College where JRR Tolkien and Roger Bannister studied, and we'll visit a secret (sort of) garden with an unexpected view.

Peter was a highly engaging and considerate guide. Provided a fantastic whirlwind guide to Oxford’s history within 90mins for our family (including 3 kids under 12). Not a dull moment and filled with interesting facts and illuminating stories. Would highly recommend.

Peter is a fantastic guide. I liked his storytelling style. He is not too slow, which I love, so we completed all our tours before time, and we feel fresh because sometimes guides are too slow and start feeling bore, but I never feel bore. Thank you, Peter.

Peter is a great personality looking to take you back in time to better understand the history of Oxford and the establishment of its colleges. He was brilliant will our two girls (8yo and 6yo) looking to involve them, and explain, some of the wonderful and indifferent events of time. Recommend.
