What you'll do
Escape the noise and congestion of downtown San Francisco and take this lovely nature walk at the western edge of the city. Easily accessible via bus, Uber/Lift, or even car (with free parking), we'll visit numerous historical San Francisco sites and experience sweeping vistas of both oceans and downtown, mostly on tree lined trails. We’ll see the location of Adolph Sutro's mansion, overlook the Cliff House, walk along an old railroad right of way, and pass through the grounds of the Legion of Honor Museum. During the tour, we’ll discuss the history of San Francisco, why San Francisco has fog (but not cemeteries), what's an It’s It, why Golden Gate Park has windmills, and lots of other weird local oddities. You will finish the tour relaxed, refreshed, exhilarated, and with appreciation for a part of San Francisco few tourists see. Many stops for photos.
About 2.5 miles overall on developed dirt trails with a few small hills. Pictures on this page are taken from the hike. Weather varies so be sure to bring layers and your camera. About three hours overall. Meet at Sutro Sign (shown in pictures) at the intersection of Los Lobos and Panoramic Highway, just above Land's End Visitor Center.
Other things to note
Weather can change quickly, but almost never so bad that the tour cancels. Wear layers that can be added or removed easily and comfortable shoes. Water and bathrooms available at start but not again until end. Tour does not loop back to beginning; ends at Legion of Honor.

I have been a full time tour guide for 5 years, a museum docent for over 10 years, and continuously lived in San Francisco for over 30 years. A former IT worker bee, I love the rough and tumble history of San Francisco as much as I do its physical beauty and many outdoor activities.
Beyond AirBnB private tours, I provide San Francisco history, restaurant, and art tours for tour operators, cruise ships, private companies, and individuals. I also conduct tours in Wine Country, Monterrey/Carmel, Lake Tahoe, and Gold Country.
I have been on the Board of Trustees for the San Francisco Tour Guide Guild for 4 years, and hold current AED/First Aid certification . I also volunteer as tour docent for the Hyde Street Pier National Park and for City Guides, the San Francisco Library based tour group.
