What you'll do

Before you put your beekeeping veil on, we'll first review the workings of a honey bee colony and the basics of backyard beekeeping. We'll discuss equipment, safety precautions for working around a hive, and steps you can take to prepare your own yard for beekeeping. You will then have the opportunity to experience and photograph a honey bee hive inspection. All activities will take place outdoors.
Other things to note
Honey bees are sensitive to how people behave. Please bring a calm and curious attitude.

I'm co-founder of Apple Acres Farm and the beekeeper of our Italian and Saskatraz honey bee hives. We introduced honey bees to our farm back in 2017 and haven't looked back! I enjoy sharing my knowledge about the ins-and-outs of backyard beekeeping to help others better understand these fascinating pollinators.

The experience was awesome! We both learned a lot, and Heather had a great deal of knowledge. She had everything prepared, and explained the whole process to us, so that we could get a basic understanding of the whole process. She was a great host, had fresh sun tea made for us upon arrival which was awesome. I would highly recommend this adventure to anyone!

Heather has done an amazing job developing a self-sustaining farm in the most thoughtful way possible. The bee keeping experience was fun, and our kids enjoyed getting up close with the bees. Heather was a great guide and understood all aspects of her property. It will be a joy to see how the farm changes over time under her expert hand.

Great intro to beekeeping, especially for northern climates. It was interactive if you wanted to interact with the bees or you were welcome to hang back and watch.
