What you'll do

It’s a bar crawl, history walk, and paranormal experience with a tarot reading for dessert.

Charleston is home of the supernatural, paranormal, and existential: 350 years of graveyards, ghosts, and ghouls in a drinking town with a history problem.

Starting at one of Charleston's most notorious watering holes, an upscale dive, we begin our experience at the bar. Listen to ghost stories and tales of Charleston’s darker side while enjoying your favorite beverage.

From the bar, we walk to a graveyard. Learn how to see a ghost, and along the way, you may even answer the questions, "Are we alone?," and "Why are we here?"

From the graveyard, we walk to another bar. We finish the evening with more history and ghost stories and a tarot reading.
Other things to note
It's adult entertainment. Ghost stories are told from perch of a bar stool. It's a wander through the old historical city where the spirits of yesterday still roam the streets.

Drinking is encouraged, but if you're not a drinker but want to hear a ghost story, feel free to drink sweet tea!

After decades in the financial industry and a stint in academia, 9 years ago, I became a licensed Charleston Tour Guide and 6 years ago an independent operator. I am your Ambassador to a greater understanding and a good time. Once a walking guide, a ghost tour guide, and for 2 years, one of the city's most requested Carriage Drivers, today, I am a writer, a storyteller, and a social activist on the lookout for the hidden messages, overlooked events, and heartfelt meaning of the world around us, dedicating myself to sharing stories of empowerment: The stories of two bars and graveyard.

What to say about Larry? Ok please read this before you book and make sure you know what you are getting into, because it will not be everyone’s cup of tea. First, if you are expecting a proper ghost tour, this is not what you will get. Instead you will get to meet Larry, who is quite a character and describes himself as an irreverent drunk. From what my wife and I witnessed, this is accurate. Larry will explain his views of the universe to you (at length) and then proceed to take you to a bar to read everyone’s Tarot cards. If you are into that, great! If not, consider an alternative tour. Next, I am quite sure that many of the ‘fact’ or other bits of info that Larry espouses are not true. Here’s a small example. At one point, Larry claimed that the Berlin wall was torn down on the same day that Ronald Regan made the famous 'Tear Down This Wall' Speech. In fact, this speech was in 1987, while the actual Berlin wall fell on November 9, 1989. Furthermore, Larry attributes the collapse of the wall to a psychic alignment of power given to Regan, rather than the numerous factors that went into the thawing of east/west tensions in the late 80s and early 90s. If this is your bag, then this tour is for you. If you are looking for historical information on Charleston and it’s links to the supernatural, then I would explore some other options. I’m not saying this is a bad experience – quite the contrary. Larry is interesting (and hands out free airplane-sized bottles of booze) and appears to be a genuinely kind human being. It is just good to know what you are getting into for the evening.

I’m sorry to leave this review because the host seems well-intentioned. This tour was the most unfocused Airbnb experience I have had. The tour also didn’t match the description (one bar stop, no guidance on how to see ghosts, 1/2 hour shorter than advertised.) The tarot reading was poor. The evening was boring and I nearly left it twice. It ended abruptly, and the host did not take us back to the starting point or direct us to it (usually a common courtesy on a tour.) Bottom line: I felt “talked at” and like I paid to be a quiet audience to the host’s ideas and philosophies on a very unremarkable tour. My ear wore out. And I know some of the other participants felt similarly (people I didn’t know prior to the tour.)

Larry is full of colorful stories that kept us entertained. Learned a little history along the way as well. The tour was full of positive energy, not what you would expect from a ghost tour.

This tour was unexpected, in a good way! Come with an open mind and be surprised! I will be remembering this tour for years to come!
