What you'll do
Illustrate your own visual diary in colourful Little India, a unique melting pot of culture and religion in central Singapore. Never sketched before? No problem! Start small and build up slowly. Learn to choose a subject, use lines to add texture, add shadows to create contrast and write a memorable narrative. Beginning at an ornate mosque, with a unique blend of East-meets-West architecture, we will capture our impression of the structure and motifs. Next, we'll go to a church started by a Chinese journalist ministering to rickshaw drivers, before finally meeting the goddess Kali, the Destroyer of Evil, to whom early Indian settlers turned to for comfort and security in their new home. We'll share stories, history and architectural features of each place, and you'll make three sketches in your visual diary. Our aim is to share a love for documenting your memories. You will take home a evocative sketchbook, a precious memento of all the places of worship we've visited.
