About your host

I am born and raised in this culturally rich corner of Wales. We were educated in Welsh, and taught the Mabinogi in school -Wales' mystical folklore tales. These are largely set in the land a few miles to the west of Caernarfon where I grew up. As I child my parents would take me to the many significant ancient sites -stone 'cromlech's menhirs and circles, hillforts, and the rugged wild places of…

What we’ll do

Pick up will be at Caernarfon tourist information, opposite the main castle gate. We'll initially head south toward Snowdon, turning eastward at the foothills to enter Snowdonia on the lowland moor that straddles the entrance to two of Snowdonia's major valleys. En-route we'll provide an introduction to the areas folklore and how the ancient stories link the area together in the history of…

What else you should know

The weather is changeable, so pack a light raincoat, something warm, and if it's fine, a sun hat and sun protection too! We'll never be venturing too far from civilisation though, so the main thing to bring is common sense and your curiosity!

What I’ll provide

Coffee, Tea and Water
Car

What to bring

Weather-appropriate clothing
Snack or a sandwich
comfortable shoes for a walk

Where you'll be

We'll start from Caernarfon and head south, turning east at Brynrefail for Deiniolen, before turning up for the upper moorland. We'll park at the foot of the route to Marchlyn lake (the reservoir) From here we will walk the gently sloped tarmac'd route to the reservoir, taking about an hour or so, break for a rest and photos, before heading back down. We'll then head to The Old Schoolhouse for warm drinks. The views are fantastic throughout!
