What you'll do

We will start by driving to the tall menhir, involving only about 10 minutes walking. Wear comfortable walking shoes and be open for new sensations. We will then drive to the area of the second site and walk about 20 minutes each way. From there we will drive to the 3rd site which is only about 5 minutes from a parking lot. Those interested can walk along the coast to a cute port town for a glass of cidre before returning home.

Harriet

I am an ardent fan of the history and mystery of Brittany. Let me show you 3 ancient Celtic sites that capture the special magic of this area. This first is one of the tallest menhirs in the area, set in a magic glade graced by a brook, an unusual fern and signs of veneration into our own time. The second is 3 smaller menhirs, set in close proximity to each other along the further run of this brook. And the third is an energy source, where Druids and ancient Celts could "see" the magnetic energy rising from mother earth like a water source. The energy runs up into the hills, "blessing" an ancient necropolis along the way. All three sites are in the countryside, the latter overlooking a spectacular view of the ocean and the excavation site for what is believed to be the site of the oldest hearth in western Europe.

Where you'll be

We will begin with the Menhir de Lespurit. Our second stop only appears on very local maps and is not named. Our last stop is Menez Dregan, special for a whole variety of sights. You will be impressed by the size and placement of these menhirs, ancient markers of sacred sites shrouded in mystery.
