What you'll do

We will meet you at Malecon in Samana at 8:30 AM (the exact meeting point and other details are provided in the confirmation message). After climbing our catamaran or boat, we set sail to see the humpback whales in all their splendor visiting the habitat and spotting calves. After observation, we will go for a typical dominican lunch to Cayo Levantado Island. After lunch you will have free time to enjoy the beach, walk around the island, playing volleyball or just relaxing in the shadow. Around 4:30 PM we will return back to Samana community where the experience finish.
Other things to note
This is an experience to see close the whales. No swimming or touching them.
In case you would like to make a private trip and not be joining a group, please contact us and we will send you prices and other details.

We have also options of whale watching from Punta Cana, Sabana de la Mar/Miches and other places.

Misael & Kate As residents who love the oceans of Samana, it would have the honor to take you on the boat for an incredible whale watching experience. The area is famous for being one of the best in the world to see humpbacks in February. And we will make sure you have an educational and fun time. We are certified National Tour Guides in the Dominican Republic speaking Spanish and English. Our purpose is to help people better enjoy their travel and also to increase the economy in my community Sabana de la Mar where we grew up. How I am helping them? 50% of every Tour going to protection of nature doing some activities such as mangroves reforestation, environmental education in the schools and cleaning beaches program to support the Whales Habitat. Sabana de la Mar is a nice town with friendly people who deserve a better quality of life.

Where you'll be

Samana is considered one of the best places in the world for humpback whale watching.
These beautiful and giant marine mammals, breathe air and come out regularly to the surface, remain in apnea for about 20 minutes, but can remain underwater for up to 40 minutes. After the long trip they make and during which they do not feed, they spend part of the winter in the Bay of Samana, still without food.

Un petit problème à l arrivée car nous avions réservé un catamaran privé et à l arrivée on avait une barque. Problème réglé en 30 minutes par Adolfo. Ce fut une très belle expérience

Tour was okay. Wasn’t really a “local” experience. Didn’t see too many whales. Too many boats in the water at the same time. Felt like we were scaring the whales away. I was happy to have met Alfredo who took us to the Limón waterfalls the next day.

The whale watching was great! We saw a mama with a baby whale - just amazing. We did not meet up with Kate or Misael but with Barbara who was super nice. Her English was really good so she could tell us a lot about the whales coming to this area. We met up at a cafe in the morning where she paid for our coffee. Then we entered a bout with another group of people. Since this is an independent provider, I feel like you get put on whatever tour boat is available that day. After the whale watching we were brought to Caya Levantado. It’s a small island where all the tourist groups go (way too crowded for us since we had experienced much nicer places before). We got lunch and a free drink (drink provided by the host, thank you!). Online it says you will be back in Samana by 12pm. That definitely did not work out. Since we had to drive back to Santo Domingo we didn’t want to stay for too long. Unfortunately, since it’s not an independent tour, Barbara had to organize a boat first that could take us back to the city. It got pretty late for us. Nevertheless we had a good time and I would recommend the trip if you have the whole day to spend there :)

The experience was good. No fault of host we left late due to rain. We came back an hour earlier than schedule however it was good because of my long drive back to Sousa. The boat needs to provide water & (heee hee) to remember to put gas in the boat on the way back to shore! That was funny. The ride out to the Humpbacks was a thrill like a water roller coaster!! These beautiful Marine Mammal sighting made everything FUN & You will be going to what I call Fantasy Island. It has a beautiful beach so dress for the beach cuz I did not know that.
