What you'll do
This is opera from the star’s perspective, and tonight, the experience is all yours. A walk-on role with Opera Australia lets you explore so much more than the stage. You’ll visit the Opera Australia studio and a costume dresser will fit you with a handmade costume. The Assistant Director will take you through what happens on stage – when you need to be still, when you need to be a star. On the night of your performance, you’ll enter the Sydney Opera House house via stage door and report to hair and makeup to have your show make-up and wig applied. Then, you’ll mount the stairs to the stage to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience, while someone you love watches from the auditorium.
You'll be hosted by our wonderful Opera Australia team. First, you'll be met by Shirley who will coordinate with you in the lead up to your experience. Over the course of your experience you'll be greeted by our wardrobe team for a fitting at our offices, then our assistant director will brief you for a rehearsal and on the night our company manager will take you through the theatre as you prepare for the performance!
About the organisation
Australia’s national opera company was born when a band of idealists — butchers, pharmacists, newsagents — gave up their day jobs to celebrate the 1956 Mozart bicentenary with a season of four of his operas. Today, Opera Australia (OA) is Australia’s largest arts employer, with annual seasons showcasing the world’s great opera and music theatre repertoire.
