What you'll do

Welcome to Charleston, well known as a drinking city with a slight history problem! With this in mind guests will meet at the initial bar location where one small snack will be served and guests will have the opportunity to purchase some local craft beer or cocktails while the guides (Adam or Bryan) go over a brief personal introduction and history of the City of Charleston. From there guests will walk to predetermined historic sites around the French Quarter including one of the oldest homes in Charleston. Brief stories and accurate historical insight from a licensed guide will cover a period stemming from the early colonial days all the way through World War II including topics on the revolutionary/civil war, pirate attacks, and of course alcohol in this famous city. This is not a typical "sit there and shut up tour" but rather an opportunity to engage with your licensed guide! Guests will be able to seek a brief respite at the next dive bar location and a particular focus will be given to the period of prohibition in Charleston as a city rife with bootleggers, speakeasies, and "Blind Tigers." The tour will finish at a stunningly beautiful local park in close proximity to other area bars and restaurants since many guests just don't want the history and hops tour to end!
Other things to note
-It gets hot/humid in the summer.
-One small snack provided at initial bar location

Captain Bryan is a 7th generation Charlestonian of Huguenot Heritage. A people that would have been among the first settlers of this historic city. As a charter captain, licensed tour guide, public servant (historic commission), and former senior analyst; Captain Bryan is the perfect guide with which to explore the city.

Adam Moore lives just over the bridge on James Island with his wife and son. In 2015 he quit a management job and transitioned back to his roots as a history major by becoming a licensed guide. As a veteran tour guide, he has met guests from all around the world and believes giving tours is both an honor and a pleasure.

Both of these guides have a thirst for not only history but also local watering holes which correlates to a unique experience for guests to the area. Come join Adam or Bryan and "live the local life."

Where you'll be

This experience will be conducted in the compact French Quarter district in downtown Charleston and includes well structured and organized arrangements at partner bars and a route unlike any other tour of historic Charleston. Great introduction to the city and its rich history. Our guide shared stories that I don’t feel you would get on other tours. Very personable.

Bryan was very enthusiastic and had wonderful stories to tell about the history of Charleston. He was very personable and made the tour extremely fun! Our group was filled with great people who bonded over beer and our own experiences thus far in the city and surrounding area. If you like beer and want to learn about the “not so commonly known” history of Charleston, I’d highly recommend Bryan’s tour.

Spend time with Captain Bryan if you're looking for history that will peak your curiosity well after it's over. A well balanced tour of walking in the heat and quick breaks to cool off with great drink suggestions at each place. Highly recommend!

Bryan was an awesome town ambassador. It was our first visit to Charleston and we left feeling pretty knowledgeable because of this experience. I would recommend this tour if you are looking to learn, sip and get some steps in. Such a great host! He also went above and beyond to send a hefty recommendation list - which was much appreciated!

I booked this tour for my family and I, and it was the best tour we haven’t taken so far. We had Adam as a tour guide and he was so kind and knowledgeable. It really felt like a friend was showing us around the city and telling us stories of the past. We learned about so many great stories throughout history as well as checked out some really fun bars. The group was less than 10 people which made the experience really personable and intimate. I would recommend this tour to everyone!
