What you'll do

PMC stands for Precious Metal Clay. If you can squish a ball of clay between your fingers, this experience is for you! We will first learn how to handle the clay, keep it moist while working, and store it for future use. We will practice rolling it out to the desired thickness(es) and learn how to use all the tools to cut the clay, stamp it, texturize it and form it. Then, we'll dive right in and create our first pendants or earrings. We'll put our pieces on the dryer, then we will lightly sand our pieces and prepare them for the kiln. Sanding is the most important step! After 30 minutes in the kiln, we'll take them out and burnish and polish them. We will also go over some basic wire-wrapping skills so that you can attach them to chains and earring hooks.

You will go home with a finished piece of handmade fine silver earrings or a pendant that will last forever. All materials are included, as well as step-by-step printed directions, a list of resources, and a gift bag.

I created the Little Hands Art Center, a non-profit organization which offers inclusive art classes to community events, disability groups, schools, and festivals. The class I personally teach is Precious Metal Clay (PMC)Jewelry-Making, which uses soft, pliable precious metal clay, that when fired in a kiln, becomes 99.9% fine silver, gold, copper or bronze. Each class focuses on building skills, beginning with basic one & two-layered pendants, earrings, and later moving onto more complex skills required for making rings, bracelets, keumboo (gold foil layering), mixed-metals, enamelling, and working with 22kt. gold. I received my PMC certification in New Mexico at Rio Grande, a foremost school & jewerly-supply company. I've taught PMC at the Japanese-American Museum (JANM) in Los Angeles, CA, as well as ClaySpace in Eugene, OR.
