What you'll do

Get your hands dirty in the pottery studio! You'll learn how to throw on a wheel and some simple creative techniques to make your pots special. Everyone will at the very least produce a cup and a dish, you'll be able to decorate your work and it'll be included in our next wood kiln firing.
Other things to note
This experience is tailored for people who are creative, you don't need any experience of pottery... but if you do, great, you can really push your creativity.

I've been an artist and filmmaker for the past 30 years and making, collecting and talking about pottery is at the very heart of what I do. My work is shown and stocked by galleries across the UK and I'm particularly focused on making characterful, individual woodfired pieces that can be used in the kitchen, home and garden. I really want to share my passion for making and enjoying handmade pottery everyday.

Where you'll be

The studio is in a 17th Century stone barn in the Yorkshire Peak District National Park. You'll work in the accessible groundfloor studio, afterward you can relax infront of the huge wood burning stove, look around the gallery space or enjoy tea in the garden. If we are doing a firing weekend then guests are invited to help with this incredibly exciting firing process.

We are a complete pottery novice and a “had a go when at school” pottery amateur who thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Tim was an incredibly encouraging tutor knew when to step in to support or give tips and when to stand back and let us get a feel for working with clay. Tim was very friendly, chatty and interested to get to know us a bit. The barn and setting was unique and pretty, and really added to the experience. We would absolutely return and I’d love to gift this experience to friends for Christmas.

We all had such a fantastic time and learnt so much. Tim is very patient with beginners and helps you through the whole process. We all hope to go back again! Thanks so much Tim 😊

I’ve had such a great afternoon! We had a lovely cup of tea in a pot at the start, all cosy by the fire. Then did the pottery making. I really enjoyed learning how to make the different shapes & personalising my work. Tim was brilliant and very patient! We had a good laugh and a chat. Would definitely recommend!

This experience is absolutely fabulous!! We had the best afternoon ever making a mug, bowl and even a little vase!! Tim was really laid back, friendly and welcoming at the same time as being super helpful and giving us some great hints and tips! Neither of us have ever done pottery classes before so we were complete beginners and his guidance was fantastic. This is by far the best experience I've ever done and I'd come back in a heartbeat! Thanks so much Tim :)

This was an amazing experience. I have always wanted to try throwing a pot and Tim was an amazing teacher, he was very knowledgable and was able to quickly fix all our wonky pots. I am so excited to receive our work back and I have recommended this to all of my friends.
