What you'll do

Our first stop will be at Aurora Basecamp, a one-of-a-kind Northern Lights Observatory. From the simulated Northern Lights experience, in a cosy inside setting, you will learn everything there is to know about the natural phenomena; what to expect and how to photograph the lights.

By carefully mixing gases and charging them with electrical energy, real Northern Lights have been made in 6 large glass tubes. The tubes are connected to real-time satellite data and simulate natural Northern Lights, their colours and movement. Here, your eyes will also have the necessary time to adjust to darkness to better observe details and colours of the Northern Lights.

From there we step out onto the observatory platform where, if the conditions are right, you will have breathtaking views and photos with the Northern Lights.

If viewing conditions are not right in this location we'll have a cup of hot chocolate and warm up by the camp fire before we jump back into the minibus and continue our hunt. We will scour the surrounding area to find the best sighting spot. !

Pick up for the tour is between 8.00 - 8.30pm.

Departures are guaranteed. We only cancel for weather related warnings or hazards.

Northern Lights sightings can never be guaranteed but if the lights are to be found we will find them on this tour!

Total tour duration depends on weather and can be 3-5 hours.
Other things to note
Please wear very warm clothes to enjoy this tour fully, we spend a lot of time outside in the cold.

Please note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomena and sightings can never be guaranteed.

I hope you will enjoy the hunt with our small group and the expert knowledge of our local team.

I am born and raised under the Northern Lights of Iceland and every time I experience the lights I feel at one with life, the universe and everything. I have been a professional Northern Lights hunter since 2014 and love sharing my passion with people as they experience the magic for the very first time.

With an extensive knowledge of space weather, local meteorology and a love for the Northern Lights my little company, Happyworld, has become a leader in the field of Northern Lights hunting in Iceland.

My co-hosts: Klemmi, Þröstur, Ástþór, Gandri and I are all expert Northern Lights guides. We have a priority access to the Aurora Basecamp facilites and we know several secret locations in the area giving us an advantage in Northern Lights hunting.
