What you'll do

Just 5 minutes from the center of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, you can move from the beach to the tropical rainforest, as easy as literally crossing the Street, doing this you will enter the Kekoldi indigenous territory.

We offer you secure parking from where we will begin to walk, and with the simple fact of crossing the main street and moving a few meters, we begin to dive into the forest, first by crossing cacaotales, then we continue to pass about three humble huts of indigenous families. In the depth of the forest we'll see abundant species of timber trees, some with more than 200 years of safeguarding these territories, many species of plants and shrubs identified with healing properties, a wide variety of trees, plants and palms such as chonta and suita that provide materials for the construction of the traditional Bribri house.

Following our path we continue in the forest until we approach our great surprise, for this we descend a bit to the KEKOLDI river, when we arrive there we will walk a little upwards, until we encounter an imposing 45 meters high waterfall with a really vertical waterfall. Here we will enjoy a good time, swimming and appreciating the forest at this majestic place.

After enjoying and delighting in this paradisiacal place we have to return while enjoying the wonderful forest full of life, with abundant wildlife.
Other things to note
We will be waking in the jungle so you might get some mud on your shoes. And if it's raining we will still get mud so don't let a rainy day stop us.

Where you'll be

Enter the Kekoldi indigenous territory, where you will also have the opportunity to live a truly authentic, natural and cultural experience.

We move from sea level to the mountains of Talamanca. Hiking deep into the jungle in search of a massive waterfall very few people know about its existence.

You'll encounter an imposing 45 meters high waterfall with a vertical water fall, in a dazzling scenario worthy for an Avatar or Jurasic Park movie.

The waterfall was beautiful, spectacular. However the description needs to warn that it is a 2-2:30 hike uphill and that you have to hike back for almost the same amount of time, some of that uphill as well. The trails were REALLY muddy and therefore slippery, and that was on a day that hadn’t rained. Since the tour goes rain or shine, I simply can’t imagine how difficult this would be if it were raining. I’m fairly in shape, as is my 21 year old daughter (I run at least 3 miles every day, and my daughter does weight/cardio workouts) and it was a serious challenge for us. We would’ve done it anyway, but would have liked to know what we were getting ourselves into. The woman ahead of us who was not as in shape kept falling in the mud. She was NOT happy that the hike was so much longer and more strenuous than described in the listing. We both felt there needs to be a more accurate description of this. If you are an experienced and in-shape hiker who LIKES intense hikes with spectacular destinations, then this is for you! We saw several poison dart frogs, a venomous snake, a sloth, heard tons of howler monkeys, etc.

It’s worth it - but wear the right shoes and don’t be out of shape. About 10 miles round trip - and parts are gnarly, almost vertical with roots to use as steps. Deep mud, lots of frogs and sloths. BRING EXTRA WATER - recommended trip! It’s exhausting and exhilarating

We spent a week in Puerto Viejo and this was definitely the most memorable part of the trip. We loved this adventure so much!! The hike is challenging, especially after a hard rain due to lots of slippery mud, but just wear good hiking shoes and you will be good to go! The hike was breathtaking and reaching the waterfall is an amazing feeling. It was a true jungle experience! Highly recommend for groups looking for a fun physical activity and to get immersed in nature. :)

"Memorable. Thrilling. More than I expected." These will be the words you use when you take this tour. The hike itself was a highlight, trekking through a trail that is obviously not often used. Hearing the life in the trees. Watching out for colourful frogs, toucans, and howler monkeys. That is worth the time and energy in itself. But the real icing on the cake is the waterfall at the end. It was almost too good to be true. Floating in this pool of water, watching this 50ft waterfall tumble down the rocks is unlike anything I've ever experienced. I remember putting my head underneath the waterfall, thinking "I'm living in a memory I will have for the rest of my life". To say that this experience was worth every cent and every second is an understatement. I'm trying to figure out a way to come back and do it again. It felt personal, secret, local knowledge that is only shared with a select few. I have not enough words to recommend you to take this tour.

The tour was amazing It's a little difficult hike, the air is hot, and there's some muddy places you can slip on, but that gives a real jungle vibe, plus Lynch told me a lot about local plants and animals, and indigenous people, who live in the jungle But the best thing was the waterfall in the end This is hands down the best waterfall I've ever seen, and the water itself is pretty warm for the river Overall great, really worth it
